Title: Voice Surgery? Technique? To Sound Androgyne
Post by: Megan on December 14, 2009, 02:22:41 AM
Sorry making too many threads in this section....

But I think this voice sounds very androgyne but more female, but could sound like a guy if you think of it as a guy.

I know I can't replicate a whole voice, but how can I bring my voice down to that range I guess or sound similar to it.

I tend to sound more masculine in my (native) US accent as opposed to the British one I use at school. Perhaps it's easier for me to speak androgynously when it's a completely different accent due to the different ways many words can be enunciated.

still don't believe in an androgyne voice - or even an androgynous one.

The voice in the vid sounds decidedly fem to me. And I'm with Pica...I don't think there IS an androgyn voice.

If You want to lower your voice it's a matter of practice. Move your voice down into your chest and let it rumble. First couple of times for me it tickled (I should mention I took up this practice BEFORE I started T...obviously my voice is lower now without trying.)

Sing along with male singers, try to match their voice. That'll help you to move into a lower register and stretch your vocal cords.

@Ivy: My mate (MtF) can speak almost perfectly feminine...as long as she uses a really exadurated souther drawl. It's much easier to do things taht are much further from our natural state...rather than baby steps. Small changes are more difficult to desern, and therefor harder to hold onto.

I think the most "androgyn" thing you could go for when it comes to voice...is to have a voice that matches the oppsite of where your at in body. So when I'm walking around work in my skirts, and people hear my low voice...I get plenty of double takes. Which...is taking some getting used to.

I think if being an androgyne has anything to do with ' the steady practice of open veracity' then an androgyne just makes the most full use of their own voice as it is, but there we go,

Well, there's a such thing as an androgynous voice as much there is a such thing as androgyny in appearance. An androgynous voice is one where you can't tell the sex of the person - say someone who is sirred on the phone half the time and ma'amed the other. I would know, unfortunately that's my voice right now.  :P
It could mean a voice that weaves in and out of male and female (like mine), or a voice which is the same all the time but the sex can't be determined.

It's a bit passed 2AM here.. I'm tired.. And right now what I'm hearing is a chick singing while humped by a sythesizer and it's.. annoying...

Anywho....
Androgynous voice, I'm with Nero on this one... Though I think ambigeous is a no-go.. Sure there's a possibility to have a voice that can be both male and female in a fluxuating kind of way, but a voice that is neither male or female... na... I'm not putting money on that one; too much bred shizzle in that area.. Andddd it's time for sleep.

My voice is androngynous. o_0 I would love for it to sound more feminine (I hate it, but people say it's okay... I think it sounds boyish-and androngynous. Examples on my YT, of course... although, I think my voice has slowly gotten better over time. Not sure. It's hard for me to really know 'cause I judge myself very harshly... but, yeah, you can check out my YT (I think the link is in the profile, if not, user same as in here)... I think it's pretty androgynous.
