The Shreveport City Council just unanimously approved a policy against discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and disability, among other qualities.

Council members and Mayor Cedric Glover moved to add these protections to city procedure following comments from Councilman Ron Webb that incited anger from gays and lesbians and their supporters.

Webb today said that he always has supported protection for these groups at the federal level and would continue to do so.

Shreveport's policy, which mirrors an executive order from the mayor, applies to city workers, job applicants and contractors.
