I know this is totally silly, but I've been amazed at how nervous I get asking doctors all the questions I have to ask.

I've found myself actually saying to my therapist "Oh, I don't want to ask so-and-so about that.  I'd just feel like a bother."  even though it's a question that's really important to me, etc.

Then of course, there are the doctors who's response (or response from their staff) is curt, or doesn't bother to answer the question, or side steps what you're asking like a politician would, or a corporation sending out cookie cutter responses.  Which makes it even harder to feel good about asking those questions again, etc.

Anyhow.  Yeah.  I've ultimately learned to suck in my pride and shame and just ask every question regardless how silly or annoying it may seem, because it's your body they're going to be dealing with, ya know?

You are afraid to someone you have hired?  Remember that you are paying him, which means that you are the boss.  Ask any and all questions.  Plus if you are asking the questions thru e-mail, chances are he isn't answering anyway.  It is most likely a nurse or receptionist.  At least with my surgeon it was his receptionist, who was really cool and quick with answers.

I avoid any of the office staff and wait to be alone with the doctor and then ask whatever it is. After all as Janet said, he works for me, and on top of that there's always the doctor patient confidentiality thing going, so no one else will know if you don't want them to. When I first asked my GP for a referral to a therapist that specialized in "gender issues" he kinda raised an eyebrow but then was very understanding and professional, wrote her name and number down and I took it from there. When I came out to my Cardiologist and Oncologist, it was the same, though my card. Dr called me on the phone and I told him, but the Onc. I told in person. They all were very professional and were more than open to answering any questions I had, as in my case I asked about HRT drugs and my recent surgeries, and the effects they may have.

Don't be afraid, just ask. As they say (you know who they are don't you?) The worse question is one not asked...
