The appointment of Amanda Simpson by President Obama to the Commerce Department is now making the rounds on the TV show circuit. Interestingly, as revealed last night by Rachel Maddow, she's not the first. Rachel also displayed her usual witty sense of humor in discussing culture war issues, making fun of the people who oppose the appointment despite Ms. Simpson's obvious qualifications for the job. Meanwhile, David Letterman also displayed his retrograde, 1970's, tin-ear sense of humor in using the same prejudice that leads to murderous hate crimes against trans people. Who's funny here?

It's not that I don't have a sense of humor. Kudos to Rachel for her humor in parodying the forces of hate. Shame on David Letterman for perpetuating the prejudices that require a Transgender Day of Remembrance every year to count up the dozens and hundreds of transgender people who are murdered because of that kind of thinking.

Hmmm... this study is a couple years old, and you have to wade through a lot of data to find the answers, but the audience which watches Letterman is older, more conservative and has less education than those who watch Stewart.

But, honestly, that doesn't surprise you, does it?  ;)

...

Yeah which makes them more impressionable on social issues, I don't want to step out my door the next door with one of these idiots who then say "Are you trans?" as they run away screaming.. even if it's a joke it's still insulting and ignorant, which should never be encouraged.

Younger persons, not older people, tend to be more impressionable, as for conservatives, just as dumb as liberals - Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right.

Anyone that watches TV is impressionable.. it lulls you into a state of mind that is akin to a trance like what is used for hypnosis. But saying that I support hypnosis/hypnotherapy as a useful method to correct emotional issues. TV on the other hand can die faster.
