MAJOR RENOVATION: The craftsman-style house looks to be a 100-year fixture in its west-side neighbourhood. In fact, it's brand new. Busy spreading gravel outside, the home's landscaping contractor is equally anomalous. Kaitlyn Bogas's female attire, bosom and pink fingernails suggest the genuine article. But the contractor is still technically Ken Bogas, whom city diners will remember as the often salty-tongued proprietor of Saltimbocca, Mangiamo and Coco Pazzo restaurants. By year's end, though, only the house may not be the real Mc-Coy.

Bogas is engaged in the 12-month process of living as a woman that will lead to a medical analysis in June. If that goes well, assessment by two psychiatrists in July could result, two months later, in approval for gender-change surgery. Should that occur by December, Bogas will end a year of living dangerously, especially in men's washrooms, "where it's not safe for me to go, especially when I'm dressed as a woman."
