LGBT Prisoner Safety Bill Passes Crucial Assembly Committee

The California State Assembly Committee on Public Safety on Tuesday, Jan. 12, passed the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Prisoner Safety Act, AB 633, in a 6-0 vote. Sponsored by Equality California (EQCA) and introduced by Assemblymember Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco), the bill is designed to prevent violence against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in the state prison system.
The bill was vetoed by the Governor last year but was recently reintroduced.
