Title: Hip Rotation & Hormones
Post by: tatiana on January 17, 2010, 12:08:18 PM
Wikipedia's page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hormone_replacement_therapy_%28male-to-female%29) on MTF Hormones states the following:
"The hips will rotate slightly forward due to changes in the tendons so hip discomfort is not uncommon."

I just started hormones a week ago and I'm experiencing lower back pain, but did anyone experience the hip discomfort wikipedia is talking about?

I doubt that you would begin to notice those kinds of changes this early. I have been blocking T for 8 months and on estrogen for about 6 and haven't noticed anything like that. But then again everyone is different.

Probably unlikely in a week. However, some people experience that change. I know I did. After SRS I had it more so. Your body will change in a lot of ways. It can very person to person, and genetics and age can play a factor.

Yes it was like a mild soreness that I noticed anytime I walked for more than a minute. I don't remember exactly how far along on HRT I was but at least 6 months.

I started feeling a bit odd while walking within the past four days or so. I felt somewhat awkward walking the way I usually do. It's probably not representative of any real change, and I'm probably overstepping in saying there might be any change as of yet.

The change in walking "style" I guess?...happened sooner than the hip thing, where I couldn't walk the way I used to, not that I wanted to anyways, but I could feel it on a physical level. Recently I've noticed more development of that, like it's a struggle to take longer steps when in a hurry.

After just a week, it's prolly just a regular ole backache or something going on with your kidneys. Have you been drinking enough?

I get a lot of backaches because I slept on my stomach my whole life and now I can't. My whole body is accoustomed to sleeping that way and meh I can't seem to get the knack of it.

The whole "struggle to take longer steps when in a hurry" idea seems quite relevant. I always used to be able to walk effortlessly in long, quick strides. A bit of a challenge nowadays: On Friday, I had to catch a train, and I could not seem to muster up the same agility of strides. Mija, I'm looking forward to more exaggeration of the issue at hand like you seem to have! :)

Before I read this thread, I assumed my belt on my pants were too tight and it was hampering my movement. Then again, my belt was just the same tightness as usual. Now that I read the thread, it seems to make quite a bit sense.

I am an incredibly fast walker, and have slowed down significantly after being on HRT. It is uncomfortable to try to approach 5mph like I was doing this summer.

I learned today that sprinting 10mph in 2 inch boots without a sports bra is not a smart thing to do, though. I think the twins have whiplash.

I have had back pain all my life.  My walk has changed even with just sneakers.  I walk with a short gait and smaller steps.  I would love my hips to rotate, but I done know how you would measure such a thing.

I probably haven't been drinking enough water with the spironolactone... I just recently got my navel pierced so I haven't been able to sleep on my stomach when I usually sleep on my stomach too. Maybe it has to do with that too! haha. Boo... wish navel piercings healed faster and the HRT changes would come faster!

I'm a speed walker too... Not looking forward to losing that speed.  :-\

My hips hurt while I was in bed before HRT.  Very uncomfortable.  Now they feel great.  I only got a little forward rotation so far.  I stretch my stomach muscles but I have a hernia near my rib cage.  Overall my posture is a lot looser.  I have really great shoes.

After more than 10 years I wish!

So should I mention I have back problems during my evaluation for hormones, I have minor scoliosis that causes the occasional issue.

I walk differently than I used to without the intention to walk differently. I walked like a girl before I started HRT so there was very little need to adjust the way I walk. However, now my walk has definately changed and I am not very fond of it.

how do you know you had hips rotation? I have quite wide hips but never had hip pain O_o
think I always had them though.

Besides, at this age the bones are sealed, what is the hip rotation then?
