Title: High Voter Turnout, But Still Disappointing
Post by: LostInTime on November 08, 2006, 08:36:51 AM
Yesterday I listened to reports where some areas had a much larger turnout than they expected while a few others did not.  While not all of the ballots are counted yet we do have a pretty good look at how many people turned out to vote across the country.

Slightly over 40 percent of eligible voters.  That is up from 39.7% in 2002 so that is good but I am still so very disappointed that it was not higher.  In Va. where there was a real big struggle going on, 43.7% of the people took the time out of their lives to cast a vote.  It is considered a strong showing especially since that number was below 30% during the last midterm election.

I would love to start seeing numbers like 60% for midterm elections and 95% for national elections.  We have a lot of work ahead of us still but at least some are willing to cast a vote and make their voices heard.
