Title: Looks like I may get another round at the name change thing

Ok, let me tell you of what has happened up to now.
No wait. There is too much. let me sum up.
State government says only one name change per adult. I used that already almost ten years ago and they refuse to change it. However, the feds did. So now I am stuck in between and it causes a lot of problems such as harassment by the police when they are out collecting extra taxes with their checkpoints (last one looked like a big pizza party). Hired lawyer. Spent money. No change. Contacted the ACLU and eventually never heard much from them.
Chapter 5: A New Opportunity May Arise
Our fearless heroine, leading a ragtag group of dust bunnies has been fighting the might of the Empire of the Narrow Minds for years. In spite of being weary and run down from banging her head into the wall, she goes on...waiting for the day when freedom will once again reign in her part of the universe.
Now living out in the open and still calling the idiots, well, idiots, she has glimpsed one last hope before having to sell off all of her personal possessions and start anew in a state where a bit of common sense actually resides.
Yet the evil spectre of Narrow Minds is standing in her way even as she attempts to gather together new allies....
----------------------
Yeah, you should totally be listening to the opening theme to Star Wars on that one up there. ;D
Finally got a note back from the ACLU and they are gathering together info to see if they will try and get me some assistance and get the name thing done.

Yeah Star Wars! :icon_rockon:
What state is doing this? And which states would allow for your second name change?

This saga is bigger than the big screen LIT, it's good that you still have a bit of a sense of humor over this. I hope that with the ACLU involved that you'll get a positive resolution to this.

One should have a sense of humour. When compared to the other things that have happened in my life, this is nothing. I mean it is indeed a big issue for me but it will not directly kill me or maim me or cause things to explode. It could indirectly lead to me being killed since I do live in the South in the good ole US of A.
North Carolinians only get one adult name change. Unless you get married and divorced. Or under a protective order issued by a judge. Oh and the law does not grant permission for those two things, they just allow them to happen. That was one of the arguments that my lawyer made and it came down to the fact that I was obviously a pervert and should not have another go round with the name.
My old lawyer did contact me after I sent her an FYI. I sent her the contact info and she said that she will work with them as much as she can to help me (she cannot do pro bono as the firm she belongs to is not quite big enough to handle such things right now).
Here's hoping that the housing market in the US rebounds in another year so I can sell the house and take up residence elsewhere.

Hey Lost,
I'm sorry to find out that not much has changed that is with your name change anyway.
Hang in there Lost and keep that sense of humor.
Humor always help to easy the frustration and pain, especially in the buttock.
I wouldn't to count to heavily on the ACLU, but maybe.
Here's hoping.
A new life in a new state maybe a better way because it would be a new begining, and safer for you too.
:) :)

Well I plan on taking up a temporarily residence elsewhere as I am in a relationship at the moment (not romantic) that I am not willing to leave behind. However, if I can get someone affiliated with the ACLU to take on this law and get it changed, it will benefit a number of people. I am not really holding my breath because well it is the South.

Come to New York! We're going to have snow soon!
On second thought...don't come to New York, we're going to have snow soon.

Thanks for the offer but I will pass. I have had enough of snow and ice. Then again we do get our share down here. In 2001 an ice storm hit during a dry winter and caused a lot of damage. The trees snapping had the distinct sound of mortars being fired. Just a tad bit un-nerving to say the least. Then one year we got hit with 24 inches of snow but that is rare and they use phrases like "once every 100 years" and not "a few times every winter". :P
