Title: What's your cooking style?
Post by: Eva Marie on February 09, 2010, 08:06:18 PM
I was cooking something new tonight that took a lot of pots and pans and shuffling around, and I thought this subject might make a good topic here, since I know there are some good cooks here.

My wife uses every pot and pan we have, while I clean up as I go. At the end i'll have a couple of pots to clean, while she has a big cleanup job.

I have a limited amount of pots and pans, let alone any space.  So I use all that I have and if I need more I clean something that has been used.

I'm pleased to say, I'm not a bad cook. I like to keep things as simple as I can. I don't have any hangups about using good quality packets of mixes, sauces and such.

But I only ever use fresh pasta when I make something with pasta.

I clean as I cook since I don't have many in the first place, so its kind of a must lol, so I guess I do use everything, but I clean too.

I'd have to say I clean as I go. I have a kitchen that's about the size of most people's walk in closet. My counter space is about 6 square feet and depending on what I'm doing I'll have to pull out a 6 foot folding table to use as prep space. I don't have a dish washer so I have to clean everything by hand, that means if it's a sticky BBQ type food I'm cleaning what I've used while it's still hot and soft.

Most of what I eat though is a stir fry so it's not all that bad.

I clean as I go very much, similar for me I only have so such space so I avoid using too much kitchenware. I also wash either while cooking or straight after as I hate anything with caked on food and also because I worry about attracting bugs if I leave it over night. But saying that since my house mate moved out there has been a steady decline in bugs around the kitchen/house.. interesting.

On that rare occasion that I cook, I use two pans at most, so there's not much of a need to clean as I go.  I probably would if I did need to.

Same here!  :P
I don't really like the cleanup part of cooking and I usually end up using a sinkful of pots and pans and utensils, so I use the "I cooked, so you clean!" argument whenever I can get away with it.  If I get bored waiting for something to boil or melt though I'll clean up to pass the time.

I Like cooking but I'm not very good at it and have problems following recipes so most of the time its frozen meals but even with those I don't normaly follow the instructions.
also "I cooked, so you clean!" doesn't work if you are alone. :( so I clean when i need to.

I love cooking, either for myself or for friends. I tend to be organised, I have a small kitchen that I'm used too and I tend to follow recipes with additions (or blemishes as some of my so called friends say). So I wash as I go, I use the dishwasher for cleaning up after the dinner party and not the dinner preparation. I like to have my kitchen neat and clean when people arrive. I just wish there was  a quick way to dry dishes. I don't mind washing, I hate the drying >:-)

I did use my hair drier once but that was ridiculous.
And of course I don't want the dishes piled up when friends arrive. I was told that aman was useful for drying dishes but haven't found it in the shops so far? I was also told you have to cook for it so I'm not sure if it is a useful device or not. I'm not sure if it has other functions ???

I love cooking. I cook only for myself but I experiment and make up new things a lot. I only use a few dishes or pans and clean as I go. I have pans I have never used.

Back when I was married and passing as (trying to be?) a man I used to bake bread and take it to pot lucks. It impressed the women and annoyed the men (made them look lazy), but everyone ate it.

Cooking style is... can it be nuked and does it open without a can opener. I'm a perfect cook within those limits.

Same here, I voted clean as I go along, I have to otherwise I just end up with a sink  full of dirty dishes, greasy pots and pans.
Just off topic but Kendall mentioned something about men looking lazy lol Im glad Im not the only woman with a lazy boyfriend, don't get me wrong, I love him to bits, but he doesn't do any cooking or cleaning, he'll fix the car, maybe paint our apartment, but I do all the cooking, cleaning, washing and drying dishes, I think I only started wearing floral kitchen aprons since I met him, anyway he does all the heavy manual work, I do all the cooking and cleaning.
