RICHMOND - Eddie Izzard should not be hired by the state of Virginia, according to several local lawmakers who lined up to oppose a law that would protect transgendered state employees from discrimination.
"Just imagine if a police officer came up to you dressed as a woman," says Del. Tad Grillbit. "Male police officers, I mean. No, actually, I guess even female police officers put on masculine uniforms, so what I'm really saying here is how could you possibly respect a police officer that looked female? Imagine the chaos. We might need to amend the law to clarify this issue."
Del. Mant Lower agrees. "A man should always look and act and sound like a man. People in authority should have deep, booming voices, not feminine, lispy voices. I pine for the days when the only trannies you'd see were in powder puff football games and Monty Python skits."
