So, I'm having SRS in 11 days with Dr. Suporn.

How do you handle dilation on the flights coming back?  Chill in the lavatory for however long it takes?

AP, DC - Air Marshals detained a woman returning from Thailand today after an undercover agent discovered that she was making repeated trips to the lavatory. After being taken into custody, a strange metallic device was discovered on her person. Federal agents are tentatively dubbing her the 'Dildo Bomber.' TSA officials were not available for comment, however, a new decree regarding cavity searches during in-flight lavatory usage has been circulating through official channels.

Don't worry about dilating on the flight! That is far too risky! You'll need to dilate before you leave the hotel and after you return home, but nothing in between (unless your flight is delayed, in which case it's a good idea to contact the clinic and ask for advice). Make sure you request a wheelchair to the gate and upon arrival aswell, I didn't think I would need one but I would never have made it to the gate without it. Just let the nurse know when she drops you at the airport that you would like a wheelchair.

The time missed in between dilations will mean your next dilation when you get home will be a little more difficult, but just keep at it. It will take a little longer to get to depth, but don't stop until you get to depth, that is the main thing. Even if it takes an hour longer than usual, you'll get there.

It's a good idea to put the travel dilator in your carry on luggage just in case your bags are lost or delayed or something. The other dilators would probably be too heavy to all be taken on with your carry on luggage, so they can go in your other stuff. Just keep in mind whehn you are packing your things before leaving that you need to allow for extra weight with the dilators and medical equipment they will send you back with (though some of it can be taken with you in a carry on bag and they will usually be cool with that at the airport).

Oh, and make sure to have fun. You're so gonna miss Thailand when it's over! :)

Even though I am unsure of when I shall have SRS, but I had thought of setting up the return trip in steps, to allow for dilation. 

When I start thinking about SRS, I plan the return trip and found that there are layovers.  One way is Tokyo and the other is Beijing.  Both have a 6 hour layover.  I figured that I could dilate on landing and before take off.

Of course if I go with Dr. Nguyen I will just come home via car.  It is only 1/2 hour from the hospital.  :D

Thank you Valerie for starting this thread.  Even though I am no where near SRS, I have thought about this very thing.  But no sense in asking the questions as it will just get me depressed again.

Please do not do what I did and that is walk home from surgery

I went into day surgery to remove a piece of skin nodule, this was months after I had my main surgery.  I walked home and later that afternoon I started to bleed and I ended up in hospital for a week. I had a large hematoma in the private area

I did not tell the doctors who where on call, about my situation and said they would have to contact my surgeon, yes I was young and naive because, he was the only one that knew what was going on down there.  I ended up in surgery again as a result.

Yes everything turned out all right in the end.  Moral of the story be careful.

Hi Valerie, wow how exciting for you.  Hope it all goes well.  Thailand is a fabulous place, very addictive, you may not want to leave!  When my time comes that is where i will be going as well.  Luckily I only have a 3 hour flight home from BKK so no probs with dilation.

Is there even room in an airliner loo to do your thing? Do you rest your heels on the opposite wall?  ;D

When you first start dilating you need nice, sterile places where you can lay back in perfect calm. IOW, so not a plane or airport experience. I took my dilators on board in my carry on because my bags had been lost once on the way over. Little did I know that the dilators would be considered a security incident and require bags to be searched and questions to be answered. Did not help that the inspectors did not speak English. I finally pointed where they went, which was funny because three of them were handling my dilators at the time. The look was priceless.

So, would my office be an OK place to do it? I have a door that locks and very cool colleagues.

Oh, and no windows.

Wow I did a double take when I opened this thread, and had to check the datetime stamp. As I type this, I'm having SRS in 11 days with Dr. Suporn. ;D

The clinic staff told me not to dilate on the plane, so I guess one missed day's dilation is not the end of the world provided it's absolutely necessary.

It depends on your comfort level. When I dilate I tend to get lubricants all over the place and a shower is a MUST afterwards, but if you are neater about it and wear a pad afterwards the shower may not be neccessary, although if you're in the early stages of healing and you need to douche all the yuck out afterwards, that will be hard to do in an office. I'm sure it is possible to dilate in an office space, I just want to stress that there is a lot more to the routine than a simple "Stick it in, wait a few minutes and pull it out" type thing. You'll get a better idea of what sort of routine you'll be needing after you have been through the lovely dilation experience for the first time.  :)
