What sort of genetic tests should be requested for testing for Intersex conditions? Would you want to test for anything other than extra chromosomes and/or unexpected pairings?

I'm getting some genetic tests done and I told my doctor that the tests should see if I have XY chromosomes or some odd grouping. He said the tests might run up to 450$ if inssurance didn't cover it and he seemed unsure that they would for the given "codes" so I want to make sure i'm testing for all the right stuff.

The most simple and inexpensive is a blood Karotype - it is also the most likely to miss things. The cheek swab is next in both cost an accuracy but both only test chromosomes. The most thorough is a DNA sequencing but that's also VERY expensive.
The most basic testing for Intersex starts with hormone levels and a detailed physical examination. Then comes an abdominal Ultrasound and/or CT scan.
