Title: Chest reconstruction after breast reduction?
Post by: Sevan on March 12, 2010, 11:28:27 PM
Hey all!
I'm shopping around locally for a reduction (from my current DDD cup..) and my insurance is going to cover it (looks like) but what I'm worried about is IF (and that's a really seriously big "if") I decide that I want chest reconstruction in the future...will a breast reduction NOW ruin the chances?

I want to bring this up with the surgeon I'm consulting with to do the reduction but I worry if I bring gender into it she won't code it right and the insurance won't cover it, or she just wouldn't take me as a patient because of any discomfort she might have with gender issues/surgery/clients.

I was thinking about just emailing one of the top surgeons and asking them if reduction scars would be an issue but I've not even looked into top surgery so I don't know who I'd even email to ask! So I'm here.

I'm trying to be realistic and open to the vast possibility that my mind will change or grow or be different in the future compared to now...and while NOW I don't want chest reconstruction...that doesn't exactly mean it'll be that way forever.

I need the reduction firstly because...DDD is rediculous. Secondly they ARE hurting my back and thirdly there's just no binding these. I've tried. Hurts, and doesn't even achieve a kind of flat look. I'm already on T and seeing changes so a smaller profile in the chest would really help.

Anyway...any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks guys

Honestly I have no idea, I wouldn't think that it would make a difference but honestly I'm not sure. I would go with the idea of emailing a surgeon who does ftm topsurgery and ask. They will be able to answer that better than anyone. If you have any idea of which surgeon you would want to use I would email them if you could, just because it may or may not vary depending on the surgeon. Good luck.

Provided any procedure is done by someone properly trained and qualified, there should be no problem later, as far as healing goes. People have repeat operations all the time.

As for your breasts hurting your back, get it fixed as soon as you can.

There's an old saying, you only get one back.

If your back goes, it doesn't heal.

I know a guy who had a reduction several years ago and then had top surgery. He said there were no issues with the first surgery affecting the second.

Thanks guys. I suspected it wouldn't have a negative effect.
