Post by: tatiana on March 23, 2010, 11:39:16 AM
What does everyone think about attending make-up school? Would it be useful for us?

I already had a natural female instinct for make up and experimented at an early age. I think a make up school is probably for those who may have not been fortunate enough to experiment when they were younger?

I went to a salon that caters to CD/TG folks in San Jose and got lessons there. If you are within the greater SF Bay area and can make it to San Jose easily, look up Carla's. I was thoroughly happy with the tips I got from her.

Some people find it helpful to have hands-on lessons on how to apply make up. Some people just get a book, or look at the many examples on youtube. Others just experiment.

As for myself, I don't wear make up much these days (I have no make up on at all in my avatar, for example). Other times I'll wear make up for myself. Earlier on in my transition I'd usually wear make-up, however. Even before transitioning, I used to wear make up a lot (being in the goth-subculture). I've learned mostly from others and experimenting on myself. Eventually, you'll figure out your own make-up style and what works for you. Youtube has a lot of examples, as well, which I've looked at for different ideas or if I'm just playing around with something.

I just blend and smooth it out. Teaching myself is fun and its great to get a few tips from people through the life experience. I have definately found what colours are best for me. I just remember to keep learning as I see fit.
Too much make up is not liked by guys though. They keep telling me they dont like it when women 'cake it on.'
