Title: Alcohol Tolerance

For everyone that is on HRT... how are your alcohol tolerances?
Ever since HRT, my alcohol tolerance has gone down the tube. It makes my head fuzzy and can't think straight even after one drink.

I would imagine it's because
A) Lower metabolism
B) Liver's working overdrive on HRT
That's why we're supposed to limit toxins.
I never had much muscle mass, but if you used to be pretty beefy, that would also do it - most people report losing a lot of weight MTF from muscle mass.
I've always been a cheap date, I'm just moreso now. I used to not drive, so I always had a DD. Now that I have to drive myself home at the end of the night, I've cut back a lot. As well, I have not had a name change yet, so I do anything I can to avoid being carded. It also got to be that at house parties, I'd end up getting tired and passing out (Not blackout drunk, but liquor tends to make me tired. It's a depressant after all.) By cutting back, I have more energy.
Also, women need to be much more careful about alcohol consumption, anyway. There seems to be a correlation between me drinking and my top coming off. But then, the parties I go to would make most of the "Oh I'm asexual, I can't possibly conceive of ever being with anyone, even post-op" crowd blanch.

Autumn I would totally love to go to one your parties lol
Men have up to 60% more of the alcohol-degrading enzymes, alcohol dehydrogenase and aldehyde dehydrogenase, than women. So alcohol stays in our systems longer before being metabolized. My tolerance has gone down the tube too; I have to limit my intake to 2 drinks on a night out or I suffer pretty much the same effects as Autumn mentioned :)

Same here.
My family always joke that one drink is all it takes and after that I am anybodies! I get very giggly flirtatious and silly when I'm tiddly!
These I am VERY careful as in my twenties I have had the frightening experience of getting drunk, ending up in bed with no memory of how I got there, and obvious evidence of having had full on sex with an unknown man whom I simply couldn't recall.
Now - I must sign off and get on with some writing before I get in trouble with the susans :police:

I never could drink the harder liquors ( Gin, Vodka, Whiskeys ), and was always a Cowgirl drinking beer instead.
But after 2 years on HRT, I find I get blitzed after a few beers. But the harder stuff, gin and tonic is my preference, does not seem to effect me as much. Maybe it because of the effect Autumn mentioned about the top coming off.
Like Jenny, I get very flirty, more so than I am already, and this could lead to trouble. :icon_drunk: :icon_drunk:

I completely lost interest in alchohol in 2002 and now I rarely drink! but I don't think it relates to HRT. It relates to a couple of incidents where I got completely out of my head and now the smell of red wine make me puke! I also don't like the smell of beer or cider either!
I never been much of a drinker, and feel much better without it.

Mine is very, very low now. I used to be able to drink a lot more. About a year after taking HRT I just couldn't drink much or I'd get very, very sick. So, now, for me, it's one or two drinks and I'm plastered out of my mind. o_0

Normally, I'm pretty flirty -- but add alcohol I'm virtually ready to strip. :p

Since I abandoned alcohol consumption twenty-five years ago, I'm more focused on my tolerance of HRT.
According to my endo, it's outstanding. (https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fforums.snapstream.com%2Fvb%2Fimages%2Fsmilies%2Fsmile.gif&hash=a83073009d91325381eb0f6e0ccfdcd76a6fd71a)

Any relation to "T?"
Do the F2Ms find they have a higher tolerance following the intro of "T?"

IDK but I've always been able to drink more than sisters before it seemed to be a problem. but then perceptions while drunk are...skewed to put it lightly.

Well for me, it used to be I could have two beers and get a buzz, but now, two beers, and its a bit too much. Just one is all it takes these days. I guess this means I can save cash on booze :P

Maybe it has something to do with not processing the alcohol as fast because the liver is processing estrogen already?

Well, there's a lot of variation even among people who are producing their own hormones. In my case (not on T yet), 2 drinks never did anything for me. I start to feel mild effects but can still pass a breathalyzer at 4, get friendly and talkative after 6, start getting wobbly around 7, and by 8 or 9 I'm seriously drunk. Part of that probably has to do with the fact that I start out pretty slow - I simply can't drink the first drinks any faster than maybe 2 an hour, because I'm sensitive to the taste of alcohol. Anyway, that pattern puts me at a higher tolerance than nearly every woman I know, but lower than most other guys my age. It's one of the things that I actually hope doesn't change with T - being a cheap date is kind of nice.
For you ladies, the effect you're noticing probably comes from a combination of women metabolizing alcohol differently and your livers having extra work to do. But there's still going to be variation in how each person responds.

I can't stand alchohol these days and some alchoholic smells make me feel sick and I feel much better without it.

HRT has had no effect on my alcohol tolerance (hormones and spiro). I do not drink daily but typically enjoy 2-4 mixed drinks on the evenings over the weekend and feel absolutely no different than I ever did. Surprisingly I noticed no effect in my tolerance when my weight dropped from 173 to 146 pounds either. How much I am affected by a few drinks has always had more to do with my mood than my consumption.

I went out drinking Saturday night for a friends birthday and it turned out pretty horrible. While I didn't throw up I did black out and I didn't think I drank that much :/
I'm not a heavy drinker but thinking of actually just giving it up for good after that experience
