Though Britain's conservative Tory party has made overtures to GLBT voters in the last year or so, the party continues to be embarrassed by disclosures about anti-gay stances taken by its members.

The latest shocker concerns Center for Social Justice leader Phillippa Stroud, who is seen as a rising star in the Tory party. The Centre is a conservative think tank, and Stroud, who is married to David Stroud, a minister with ties to the American evangelicals, is reported to have been an influence on the views of David Cameron, who is the front runner in the imminent election that will determine which party takes the reigns of the British government.

I'm guessing it is because there are enough voters who still think the same way (or who are at least not adverse to it enough to override whatever other beliefs/ideas the politician has).
