In her bid for re-election, Shasta County Clerk Cathy Darling, 41, faces a colorful opponent known for two decades of political antics.

Hunt wrote in an e-mail that as county clerk he would move to a mail-in-ballot-only voting system, would personally verify addresses of candidates and would not issue marriage certificates for transsexual couples.

In March, Darling granted a marriage certificate to a transsexual woman who was born male and her female partner.
