Title: Hypothetical Questions
Post by: LordKAT on May 25, 2010, 06:18:20 AM
I am wondering at the answers you would all have at the following hypothetical question.

If you had one month to take a trip and money was no object, where would you go and what would you do? Maybe explain why you would choose that choice.

I think that I'd go to Finland to visit my friend.
I'd like to drag her out shopping and to discos.
I haven't seen her in a long time.

I'd go back to Puerto Rico. I fell in love with that island so hard the last time I was there, I think being in El Yunque again would be like a breath of cool air for my drowning soul.

Other than going to Thailand for the obvious.  I would go to England, to see my brothers and sisters who live there.  And I would let them take me to all the best places of my dime.   ;D

First stop would definitely be Kiev, Ukraine because I lived there a few years ago and left part of my heart there. After that I really wouldn't know - there's so many beautiful places but one month wouldn't be enough to experience them properly; Tokyo, Moscow, Anchorage, Prague, Bejing, Dhaka... I could go on for quite a while. So if I'd really have to pick one then I'd stick with Kiev since I know what I'll find there will bring a smile to face, perhaps even tears of joy - the tiny things that I find beautiful; I prefer that over all the places that might put me in awe.

Oh that's so hard!!! I guess I would choose between:

  • Through hiking the JMT
  • Going to Machu Picchu.
  • Going to the Galapagos Islands.
  • Exploring Alaska.
  • Taking a cross country road trip.
  • Maybe going somewhere exotic like Kilimanjaro or Tibet, but those might require more time.

What would *you* do, LK?

I would travel around Japan. I've been to Tokyo twice, for two weeks each time. But one whole month would mean I could see much more of the country without having to stress from city to city.

One month may give you more opportunity to get the real 'flavor' of the country and not just the touristy taste.

Good answer Megan, I think I'd have to go to Disneyland Paris, and see as much of Europe as I could while there

Northhampton Massachussetts. Where my best friend goes to college-- I would pretty much sell my left leg to be able to spend an entire month there with them.

And what would I do? I dunno-- what would you do if you had an entire month with your best friend in the entire universe, who you never get to see for more than about a week out of every year? Probably lots of talking, lots of hugging, lots of playing outdoors and going to coffee shops and simple, wonderful things like that.

Guadalajara to see my family. I've wanted to see Germany or Spain for a while though, so maybe one of those instead.

Janet.

If you ever manage to come to England try to get your relatives to take you to Preston Lancashire to eat.

The food is quite a number of resturants there is so good you'll think they are practicing witch craft.

If I could, I would find the best place in the world to help and advise me of complete transision and then spend my entire month swanning around.

I'd travel around Europe and the more outdoorsy parts of the USA.  I've always wanted to visit Germany because that's where a great deal of my heritage is, but I'd also like to go into the Scandinavian countries, England, and a few others.  Assuming I could also pick the "when" it would be in the spring or fall.

I remember the first time I went into a grocery stare at 17. I was like a kid in disneyland for months. So many things I had never seen and didn't know existed like soup in a can and potatoes in a box and flour and sugar came in bags under 50#. The veggies were so exotic to me. I would wander up and down aisles just reading and sometimes wondering how you would cook or eat some of the things I saw.

Maybe I'm not ready for Disney.

I got my fill of traveling when I was a kid, but I guess I wouldn't mind going to England and spending a couple of months spooking around the British Library. And seeing some sites important to Victorian and Edwardian literature.

Oh, and U of Texas at Austin...they have a book that I want to read, and it seems to be the only public-access copy in the world, at least with regard to libraries that participate in WorldCat.

I guess it's always books with me.

Maybe I wouldn't mind one of those Galapagos tours...but only because I'm a big fan of Charles Darwin.

I'm rather curious about that book Arch. What is it?

Chrissty, I can be bothered for that. Invite away.

You all seem to have much more variety than I anticipated. I'm glad to know that you have dreams and they aren't all trans related.

I have always wanted to go to Germany as the is where my grandparents are from on both sides. So many places to see and things to do and miles to go before I sleep.

I would give it all away tho, for the right person. Someone to share all the good and bad in life where ever it may go. Sadly, I don't think that is feasible for me.

You and me both Kat.  And I often question whether such will ever be feasable for me either.  Only time will tell.  Hang in there though, you never know what the future will bring.
.
As for the original question...I honestly don't know.  The most exotic place I've visted was Canada (Regina/Saskatoon).  :P  I haven't travelled much really...but I don't have any burning desire to go anywhere in particular.  I'm not sure I'd enjoy it without someone to share it with.

Germany and Scandinavia, ending up on Svalbard.  That's about as far as I can get from here, and I like the idea of being as close as possible to the North Pole.
And it just sounds like a cool name especially with an accent.

I'd join vexing - and a day down on the moon as well, play some football and watch earthrise, be good.

That'd be two weeks - the other two weeks would include Petra in Jordan,

and a wander round the italian alps I guess.

I would go to New York.  I LOVE new york.  I visited it as a kid and loved it to much.  The tall buildings, the traffic.. i just like it.

I would buy a flat (money is no object) and I would live there.  Walk the streets, relax, buy food, eat out, visit cool stores, buy awesome clothes.

Sorry, didn't mean to be so mysterious. It's called The Stone Giant. It's an 1898 book by C. C. Dail. It's probably pretty bad, but I want to read it anyway.

I would ship my motorcycle to Geneva and ride as many roads in the Alps as possible, with leftover time to ride down through the Apennines and maybe the Carpathians.  And maybe if there was still enough time left (and I still had energy), ride from Oslo to North Cape.

Aaah, twisty roads and mountain air and evenings of wine and song, and maybe a handsome fellow-rider here or there. ;D

You may get a chance to look at it but to read it, unless it is the general collection, and you are some visiting Prof a weak chance at best.

I remember when I was a teen, trying again to be male, I had taken up martial arts and was very good. I wrote to the curator at Liverpool museum to see the behind the scene Samurai weapons they may have. They replied quickly and I and a friend handled the most awesome swords, arrows, both throwing and  bow designed. It was a tremendous afternoon. I asked if they were going to be put on display and the reply was probably never. The blade on the sword had been turned over fifty times and was probably made in 9th century by a Master.

This was 40 years ago. I remember it still.

Many museums are quite lovely, especially smaller ones. The Dundee Library sent me the entire photocopied text of the manuscript of a play written by William McGonagall.

Well...there's always the library of Congress (If you go there, looks like you have to use their reading rooms...but I also see that they do interlibrary loan too):
