Title: HRT - Endocrinologists

I'm from Brampton Ontario and am currently on a low dosage of estrogen which has been prescribed by my GP. Unfortunately he will not prescribe a higher dosage than I am currently on nor will he prescribe the other two hormones. He has sent out a couple referrals to endocrinologists, both of which have been turned down as those doctors apparently don't work with the necessary medicines. I'm just wondering if there are any girls local to me who know of any endocrinologists who work with HRT for trans-gender patients. Any information provided would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I don't know of any out there (I'm from Alberta), but you could go to this site: http://transhealth.vch.ca/resources/careguidelines.html (http://transhealth.vch.ca/resources/careguidelines.html) and print out the care guidelines for your doctor. He might not know what to give you, which is why he's giving a small dose. See if that site helps, it's written by doctors for doctors. I know it's written for Vancouver, but I know several people who have used the Vancouver Trans Health Guide Lines to help their doctor out to know the basics of HRT care.
A lot of Endos don't know trans care, either, since many aren't trained.
Good luck!

Just going to add, from what I've heard the VCH stuff was written based on the SOC and from the testimony of several trans patients and doctors that work "with these issues" so it should be good enough I think.
Otherwise I think there is a trans health guide for ON. somewhere, a google search would likely bring something up. GL!

surely it's not a question of 'working with these medicines' ? An endo is trained to analyse blood test results which list everything in our blood so its hardly rocket science to see that e is low and t is high or whatever.
maybe they just don't want to work with transsexuals.

You need to see a specialist endocrinologists who has experience with transsexuals. He or she will then monitor your hormone levels correctly. If you don't get any joy I would change your GP.
