So my first appointment is next monday  ;D and i'm just wondering what I should expect, like what questions will they ask me?

While I have no personal experience of GIC interviews myself I suggest you go there, tell the truth and stick to the matter in habd.

You want their support to proceed to the next stage of gender reassignment.

This is your history. Your back ground and so on.

But try to avoid getting into discussion of other problems not related to your gender problem. Everyone has hang ups and little bits of baggage left over from child hood.

Stick to the piont and be honest.

Yeah, don't let them make you digress from the issue....don't take the bait.

I kept getting asked questions about my childhood, and I could have filled a million appointments with crap about my childhood, but instead I just answered with "it was fine, normal"

Unless of course you feel you need to be in therapy to talk about your childhood and your parents and school and whatever else

ive just had three appointments the first was basically asking why i was there then telling them the story of my life and how it related to gender issues. the second was about my life in general basically an autobiography i also had to write an essay about my life and gender issues. £he third session was being told i'd never be a real man people would always know id once 'been female' id lose all my loved ones and be a freak

Seriously?

Dr Curtis said some similar things to me, I think it's just to make sure you don't have any delusions about transition.

Oh I get it, I thought they were telling him it was definately going to happen.

well its taken me three weeks to even be able to right anything about that last session even tho i sort of knew he was just trying to paint a worse case scenario it still hit me hard

I'm far to impatient to wait for the GIC up at cxh...fortunately I'm in a position to be able to self fund. I'm told that the experience is different to the NHS.

I hope your appointment goes well though.

Yeah, i've been waiting 9 months for this appoinment  :-\ If I could i'd go private.

He told me that I would never look like Kylie! I laughed my ass off for days about that one :D :D

I'm in a bit of a weird situation because I have taken the private route in order to get a diagnosis and hormones, but have also got a referal to the consultant psych on the NHS as a fall back in case I can't fund surgery. I have no idea at the moment how i'm going to explain this although my G.P hasn't got any problem with the way that I have gone about things, I know that CX have no problems with Transhealth, but am a bit worried about the Psych.

Good luck Nathan, from what I have heard I think that the advice given here is 100%, but most importantly, just be honest.

Just thought i'd update, saw Dr Lorimer at CX GIC today. The appointment went really well, Dr Lorimer was really nice and he didn't actually make me go into too much detail so it was much easier then I expected. He said I was a pretty straight forward case and told me to make another appointment and get a blood test as I need that before I can get T.

Next appointment is in september so I might be able to start T then  ;D
