Morning everyone.

I need some advice on heeled boots or ankle boots and court shoes.

What is the rule of thumb here ?

I am just six foot and I have found a lovely pair of boots that come up just below the knee with a 2 to 3 inch heel.
Can tall people get away with heels or should I look to wearing a 2 inch shoe.
I love ankle boots and boots with buckles on. 

Very trendy.

I don't know that being tall is by itself a barrier of any sort.  Plenty of models are in the 6 ft. + range.

If I were shoe shopping, I'd take a friend who I knew would give me their honest opinion and ask what they thought.

  While there are many 6+ foot models they are also models who, let's face it, aren't in any danger of being clocked as TG.  As I am 5'10 to 5'11 (depending on whose measuring LOL) I limit myself to heels absolutely no higher than 2 inches.  I prefer a shorter heel such as a 3/4 inch to 1 inch myself anyways just for comfort reasons.  That being said I do have a pair of boots I love that have a 2 inch heel.....

  Here's my personal opinion....I'm tall and I get looks when I go out simply because you don't see a lot of near 6 foot women walking around.  It's natural in todays society that when you do see a tall women you automatically do a double take on her because that little voice in your head is saying "Is that a man?".  Scumbags like Jerry Springer and Maury Povich have created a carnival type atmosphere in regards to TS women and because of this and movies like "TransAmerica" people are more trans-aware. 

  I say wear whatever you like and enjoy it....however, keep in mind that the higher the heel the more attention you will call to yourself.

If you feel that you wanna wear 3'' high heels go for and walk with that bounce in your step that so many of us do.

I wear heels a lot of the time, I'm not tall, 5'6'' and love them, but get me in a pair of thongs or ballet style shoes any day these days.

Ehm.. I'd say: Depends. Not on your height, but on your structure.
With a long face, high forehead and a very slender build, well, it's possible to wear heels, but.. I'd take something more casual for the top. Say a.. wossname; you know, a mexican table-cloth.
Also, watch it with.. Well, just about anything tight in the shoulders; you don't want to have high heels with angled shoulders.
Overall: make sure your frame isn't bony. Then high heels shouldn't be a problem. Oh, and if you do wear high heels, a hint is not to wear sleek hair. Have it either curly or short. Having long sleek hair makes you twice as tall if you walk on high heels. Make sure vertical lines in clothing are broken, too. Then it should be just fine.

I don't wanna trivialize this so please know this isn't intened to do so.

I am a shoe nut. I love them - high heels, stilettos 3 1/2" or higher...4" is perfect for everyday. At 5'6" I don't pick heels for how tall they will or wont make me. I pick the shoes for their character.


I am a GG and I know many GGs that are tall and don't wear heels even tho they love them. They are self conscience about their natural height already soooo....that being said this is not just a TS issue.


My personal opinion is your height does not matter. Were what YOU like and do it with confidence. It is my belief that confidence will carry you in any heel height.

quick notes....thin heels and pointy toes will elongate, but fat clunky heels will defeminize a look.

Find a heel height that is comfortable in the physical sense and then learn how to pull it off in the emotional/confidence sense.


A plus to high heels is that wearing them tilts your hips differently and once you master walking in them well the walk is more femme. Additionally a higher heel will nicely shape the calves.

4" - That's intimidating.  :o

I'd have to dodge aircraft on approach if I tried to wear those.

Is there some secret rule out there on how tall a woman can be? Sheesh. Heels are part of a womans accessory arsenol people, get with the program  :P
My Mom is 6' tall in bare feet and before she was ill she wore heels with no question as to the height of them except her own personal comfort.
There is no rule that a tall woman can't wear any size heel she wants...now if you want a couple tips on how....

I highly recommend not wearing the big fat clunky heels if you are concerned with your height/size etc. Those heels just look big and awkward and the bigger the person the bigger and more awkward the heel looks. Slim heels create a streamlined look. Paired with jeans, slacks let your pants be long and rest ON the top of your shoe with the heel barely visable from behind. Pointy toes look more femme. Trick to pointy toes is that you are NOT supposed to cram your toes into the points, they should remain relatively empty.
Open toe pumps are awesome, there is no pressure on the toes themselves like there is in a closed toe heel.

High heels are more about the leg shape than about height. My opinion is that a woman's leg looks nicer with a high heel than with a flat shoe. I'm 5'9" and when I have high heels it makes the difference; it is not height.

That is correct Kiera. Wearing heels reshapes the leg from the hip to the ankle.

I am a tall woman (almost 5 11 US system) and I wear heels because I love them. I walk straighter, my back is slightly arched, and my legs look more sculpted. over all I feel oh so sexy when I wear the heels!

I'm tall, too and whenever I wear higher heels, I work extra hard at looking feminine and generally good everywhere else. Diversion of attention is what it's called.

I am 5' 10" w/o shoes on. I wear heels every day. I have one pair that is 5". I figure that if I am going to stand out in a crowd, I am at least going to be wearing cute shoes at the time.

I wear all sort of heels, except never more than 3.5 inch.
First, they are not comfortable!!!
I prefer not wearing heal which are so small they look like nails :-), I don't like the look.
The smallest one are usually more like a standard pump.

- I don't think a chunky heel is bad at all, if you have long leg, are tall and have a small frame they
don't make you look larger. I wear 2 inch leather clogs all the time. They give a more youthfull casual look
than something more dressy and flatter. Nobody older than 35 wears that kind of clog so It goes with my general attire which is late 20's usually. I have a very long leg and only wear 9 to 10 size shoes, which for someone my size is not that big; I don't know if it would work for someone else but me.

- Also have 3.5 inch retro wedge red sandal and red and white, casual 3.5 inch sandals with chunky heels.
- Have a few classic 3.5 inch pumps of various colors.

- I've got plenty of closed shoes and boots (its cold here :-) with 2 inch heels.

- I'm currently looking for a leather black or dark brown, 3.5 inch heel, dress sandal  to use with a Calvin Klein dress I bought. The dress is gorgeous!!!! I can't wait to use it in formal occasion in one 2 weeks.

- Under 2 inch, I don't call it a heel, of course I have tons of those flats :-).

If you like heels, you should wear heels! I am approx 6' and wear heels all the time, except when I expect to do a lot of walking or am in a hurry. The trick is to buy the right kind of heels that suit your foot shape & size and of course to reflect your personality.

When I shop for shoes, having a large foot, there are certain things I look for and try to avoid.

For example the positioning of the heel. Some shoes have the heel positioned too far back, giving the impression of a longer foot than if the heel is further forward.

Especially when wearing pants where the shoe is barely visible will this give a very good impression of smaller feet.

To me my height is not an issue.

I feel like going shoe shopping now... :)
