Idaho GOP move to define marriage to exclude transgenders
Measure: Bond is between 'naturally born' man and woman

Idaho doesn't recognize gay or lesbian marriage, but some Republicans want the state to go a step further.

A panel of GOP delegates at the state party's convention passed a measure Friday to define marriage as a bond between a "naturally born" man and woman, effectively barring transgenders.

Bannock County delegate Ralph Lilling says his amendment to the state party's platform will help further protect the traditional family unit.

They have bad wording to get what they are after. I am a naturally born man. Nothing un natural about my birth whatsoever. Now about this body I ended up with, that is a whole nother game.

Speaking of naturally born, I wonder would they be planning to exclude people who had Cesarian births?  ::)

This really only effects people who move to Idaho.  They don't allow gender markers to be changed and its a crap shoot to change your name if you have an Idaho birth certificate.  So really it would be damn near impossible for a trans person to get married here anyways.

I don't exactly know how they would be able to tell if you were a naturally born male though, I wouldn't suppose they do a background check before they hand you a marriage license?

What they are doing doesn't surprise me though, it seems as the states around Idaho take a step forward, this hell hole takes a step back.

I'm not exactly sure of the ramifications of this language. There are a lot of states that let us gay-marry a cis person (and straight-marry a trans person) - I don't know if this would exclude that as well.

It seems odd that they would even bring this up, as a very small population of Idaho is gay, and even fewer are trans.  Might just be someones personal agenda, but this just seems like a bit of leap to me.

It'll probably pass though, much like most things that have nothing to do with making the world better do.  Then the things that would really make a difference seem to fall flat -_- how odd...

Well ...

Technically we're all natural born women and men.  Do a genetics test ... I GUARANTEE you that I'll be one of those two genders.

*EDIT* .... I suppose this could be a jab against Intersexed people. :( .. That's really uncool. :(

It's funny how so often trying to define those hard black and white edges just makes everything appear more grey.  Naturally born man/woman?  Huh?

I am a tad confussed...
Do they intend to make it so we cant marry anyone, or just limit our choices?

To me it sounded like transsexuals can't marry if this went through. That alone should be enough to stop it.

Don't they have anything better to do?

Umm.  Really?  No.

Idaho (no, you da' ho) has a huge percentage of its population on the far right wing of Christianity and veering into Christian Identity stuff, Neo-Nazi's run around the state like hippies in Golden Gate Park, and the government is pretty much run by the LDS.

It's also extremity isolated, mostly wilderness or rural areas that are real close to being wilderness.  It's like Siberia in the USA, only people go into self-exile there.  People who move there thinking Alabama and Mississippi and Oklahoma are getting too liberal and too gay.

Lol, Tekla, that is exactly Idaho in a nutshell.  It's one of the few places in this country scarier than where I currently live, basically because it is the same but slightly more nuts.
