Title: HRT effects on body hair?
Post by: Britney♥Bieber on July 14, 2010, 02:08:03 AM
I'm not a gorilla or anything but I have some chest hair and some on my stomach and a few small areas on my back/shoulders. It's not thick on my back, just small sections where they are longer and darker. But my legs are pretty bad. I'm just curious how HRT will effect this. Do I have to get electrolysis on my whole body? I'm sad enough about having to get it on my face, since it's so lengthy and expensive!

Most of my body hair thinned out significantly or went away totally. My leg hair is maybe half as thick as it used to be and grows at maybe 1/4th its former speed. Chest and stomach hair all but disappeared. What few hairs that are left I can pluck in just a few minutes.

YMMV of course but everything should should thin out and slow down significantly except the face lol. I'm guessing you're a bit under 25 so there may be at least a slight effect in that area also. I'm not an expert but have heard several ppl say if you're 21 or under some facial hair may actually go away.

Well, if your starting your full HRT regiment before your full facial fuzz grows in (mine didn't finish till 23 or so) you may be able to prevent any new growth from sprouting :)  Best of luck to ya :)

With face hair? Yee! It's not too thick. Most of them are colorless and they never get too long. My face never gets too covered either. A lot on my chin lip and sideburn areas, but I have bald patches like on each side of my chin. Underneath my chin and neck it's thinner but longer and dark. But not thick at all.

Did you wax?

I have like few black hairs (maybe 10) in between the breasts I HATE SO MUCH....... I am on hormones for more than a year and they just didn't go :/

Actually, I don't remember having them before, I think they came sometime this year after a surgery I had but maybe I just noticed them...

You're so lucky! I hate my hair!! =/ I shaved my legs for like a week when I was like 15 but they grew back so bad and fast it wasn't worth it! :( Now the hair is dark and thick and I never wear shorts. :(

Alas, likewise. I have to really work to keep up these days - I lapsed until I decided I really would have to transition, and had one hell of a painful few days as I tried to trim back to shaving length. I don't even get to see a doctor at my GIC until February! Six and a half months of weekly shaving... yay. I wants teh hormone!1!!

Omg I want to be on hormones right now! My beard areas are just now barely sprouting! I just turned 17, so I think the effects on my body will be good. :)

It varies a lot.

I started about a month after turning 21, and its had a tremendous effect on facial hair. It grows much slower, seemingly about half or more has stopped growing entirely, and the majority of whats left over is now so fine and light you can't really see it.

wanna reduce that body hair eh? I got a solid plan for you....
Spearmint tea.
Spearmint (and only spearmint!) has a chemical in it that works as an anti-androgene on your body hair cells. Women in Siberia have been ussing the stuff for centuries for hyperpilosity. (excessive body hair)
I make up a quart of very strong tea a day and have a plesent time watching tube or surfing the internet as I sip my tea.
My body hair is already reduced to a point I never could have wished for prior to starting my transition and honestly I am pretty sure I am not done yet. Lets say I went from hairy bear to lightly fur'd human.
I would have atributed the hair reduction to my HRT but I started HRT before my tea and I didn't see any reduction until I started drinking the stuff.

And if spearmint tea doesn't do anything for your body hair you at least get to sit back and enjoy a pot of tea and that is good for you on its own right. Even if all you are doing is relieving stress by enjoying a cup o tea.

Body hair is starting to get more thin, and facial hair is a bit slower growing, after 2 months of HRT.
it also appears laser-hair removal is more effective since I started HRT, but this can be subjective.

I've Been Doing Monthly Facial Laser treatments for almost a year now and taking hormones for 16 months.
I would definatley invest in laser. it can get expensive but i know a great Technician who offers a great price in Michigan if  anyones in the area  ;)

But anyways  :-X
The Hormones definitely made the treatments have a greater effect on my face by slowing down grow and working to prevent new growth. my technician was surprised at how well my face responded to the treatments, but i think the hormones had a lot to do with it :)

Also I Forgot to add That i still have a rough time ridding the hair on body.... specifically my armpits and thighs. there has been a great change in rate and consistency, but I still have a hard time wearing shorts :(

I thought laser wasn't permanent? I'm planning on getting electrolysis if needed. But I'm really worried about the pain and cost since I'm unemployed lol.

And Cynthialee thanks for that tip! I will definitely start getting some of that stuff! Do you have a specific brand or anything you can suggest? An online purchase maybe? :)

I get my spearmint from a local herb shop. I buy it in pound or half pound bags of bulk.
(I tend to use 1/4 oz aprox of spearmint for a quart of tea add in a couple bags of black tea for flavor.)

Oh okay and how bad is it calorie wise? I'm trying to lose a bit more weight before transitioning, I really appreciate how fast men can lose weight. My sisters seem to have a harder time than I do lol.

I've Heard that too.
before i got the laser I had a really hard time getting a solid answer on the electrolysis vs laser thing.
but the truth is they are pretty equal in what they do, it's all in a mater of your criteria.
Laser is for those who have thick dark hair and light skin.

i am Mexican and Maltese and have a olive tannish skin, and it is working excellent for me.
it is also less expensive and gets you where you wanna be.

The Experience Your technician Has Also is a Huge factor.
My technician is obsessed with removing hair..... its kinda hysterical lol

This with bells on. I'm pre HRT (hopefully not for long though now) and I've noticed significant thinning of the body fuzz

Oh. I have light skin and light to dark hair. It's dark on my body and thick in some places. But most of my face is pretty light and thin. It never gets very long, thank god.

Does laser remove it forever though? I've heard laser can do bigger sections at a time and stuff but I didn't think it was permanent.
Title: Re: HRT effects on body hair?

It Is. and what ever isn't permanently removed remains thin baby hairs
until the next appointment. I've gone 8 months once a month and are to the point that I will start going every 3 months. eventually it will be once a year and then gone.

HRT really helps laser to work to it's full advantage. because i am 20, new growth is prevented with my hormones and the growth that i had is now no longer because of the laser.

Laser is permanent hair reduction because it usually doesn't kill 100% of the hairs, what it doesn't kill though usually grows back in finer and softer.
Electro is permanent hair removal because each hair zapped properly is pretty much gone for good.
