I'm not sure who all here likes visual kei/jrock. But this is a thread for those of you who want to discuss the music.

Gosh, that reminds me that I haven't heard L'Arc-en-ciel in ages. Going to have to correct that tonight. :)
(I know they hate being labelled Visual Kei, but that's what they are)
I first heard them watching Full Metal Alchemist with "Ready Steady Go," but they have a lot of other good stuff.
.
Also liked Do As Infinity quite a bit (J-pop).
Uverworld and High and Mighty Color (J-Rock) were good for a few songs, but not nearly in the same league.
.
Anyway...gotta love Visual Kei..and J-Pop...and J-Rock. :)
I can't say the same for J-Hip-hop though. While I do like Namie Amuro,
singing along for a while in Japanese and then suddenly breaking the language barrier
for one-word with some questionably timed English slang like "Bootylicious"
only to go back to Japanese right away....just makes me bust out laughing. :P
.
Heh, I'm probably showing my age here. All of these were active a decade ago.
.
So...anyone have a suggestion for someone current or newer that's worth listening to?

My gosh, I haven't thought about VizKei since Dir en Grey was still part of the genre. They're really the only band that's been in the genre that I listen to anymore. This is awesome, nostalgia lane ho!

@Kay: I found out about them the same way, but I didn't even know that ready steady go was them until a few years after I first heard it and I realized that was hyde's voice lol
I didn't know those bands were active a decade ago. I think L'Arc!~en~Ciel is still together, I'm pretty sure dir en grey is. But I don't know about Uverworld and High and Mighty Color.
I shall give you some suggestions though =]
Jrock: GazettE, Kagrra, Miyavi, SuG, An Cafe, UnsraW (not sure if they're still together) Chemical Pictures, Sectmateria, Himeyuri, DIS Marionette, Ayabie
Jpop: Berryz Koubou, Koharu Kusumi, Morning Musume, C-ute, Kirarin Revolution (the group, not the anime), Buono, W, and Gyaruru. That's really all I could think of for jpop though, for jrock I could go on forever.
@JosephKT: I keep seeing you everywhere XD Did you listen to other visual kei bands before? I love dir en grey, they're the only band that I have an official CD of. But that's mostly because I don't usually buy CD's and up until just recently I couldn't find GazettE CD's locally. But now GazettE is getting more popular because they made the song for the opening of the anime Kurohitsuji. I think I'm rambling a little bit, sorry lol

That just reminded me. Sorry I couldn't respond to your message, btw. It doesn't let me send messages for some reason.
Anyway, I saw Miyavi back in June! o: He was awesome.
And isn't he like...Neo Visualizm now or whatever? He did an entire song about it.. Sorry if I'm wrong. XD I have a poor memory.

I didn't know that was what the song was about. lol but I still consider him visual kei, and he's deffinately still jrock. cause all that is is japanese rock. then again, his music isn't exactly rock anymore, I dunno what he is. he's just miyavi. I almost saw him in july, but I never got to go. Just like when I almost saw LM.C, and D'espairsray, and Girugamesh, and dir en grey XD Its ok that you didn't reply to my message, I figured you just weren't online

I was thinking along the same lines ;D
Well, I kinda knew most of the main stream J-rock bands. You know, Malice Mizer, Larc en Ciel, Kaggra, Shonen-Knife, Glay.
Dir en Grey just happened to change musically in the direction I was starting to prefer at the same time, which is how they've remained one of my favourite bands. Amongst other things of course, I kinda hero worship Kyo ^^

I love those bands. I haven't listened to Glay in forever. I listen to mostly main stream too. But thats cause my youtube doesn't work. there are a few that I listen to that aren't main stream though. I love Kyo's voice, he's a really good singer. I just feel kinda bad for him, cause he apparently hates being called cute, yet there are tons of people calling him cute. I think they do it to annoy him lol What's your favorite dir en grey song?

At the concert I went to, at the end, he went across the stage so that people could touch his hand (I was in the front) and this whole mob of people came rushing forward and I was like, jammed between billions of people. And I don't like being near people. XD Anyway, that wasn't the point. This hot guy with really amazing contacts, outside of the club, was screaming for his friend and then he screamed, "MIYAVI TOUCHED MY HAND. I CAME. JIZZ. EVERYWHERE." I couldn't help but laugh.
I could have seen Dir En Grey this month, but I didn't have the money.
@JosephKT: I love your taste in music. XD

Depends on my mood, they have such range in their music, but right now I think "Vinushka" from Uroboros.
I know Kyo hates being called cute, but I can't help it, he's adorable XD But I really admire his boldness and conviction on and off stage.

I think it's in saw 4 as the ending song. if you buy the DVD it comes with the pv as a special feature.
what do you think of it? I think it's hilarious, cause I'm a terrible person. but mostly because of the over-dramatic-ness of Yoshiki

I almost bought the DVD just for the video, even though I hate the saw movies cause they're boring.
I love the way Yoshiki looks when he plays piano, it's like he's smashing his face into it or trying to headbang lol
