Title: I came out to my brother.
Post by: Sandy on November 29, 2006, 11:30:06 AM
I asked him over to my house after he visited with my father, who is currently in the hospital.

When he came by he read on my face immediately that there was something wrong.  I was just this side of an anxiety attack and I guess it showed.

We managed to make small talk for a while, talking about our father, his age, and whether or not he'll be able to return to his regular living after he is released).

I then said I had been in therapy for a few months.

Then I just blurted out "I am a transsexual..."

He said, "Ok... So?"

That's when I started to cry.  I really didn't want to do that!!! (bloody hormones!)

He hugged me and told me it was alright.  He never caught on, but he knew there was something about me that was different.  He said he always viewed me as the strong one.  He said now he knows why.  Keeping that secret in me for so long made me stronger, he feels.

He admires my courage.  He is a surgical tech and works with plastic surgeons and has seen many transgendered clients.  He is very supportive and understands what has driven me to this point and the effort I have in store.  He wants to help me any way he can.  I am grateful for his support.

I feel like a stone has been removed from my shoulders.

That's fantastic news, Kassie!

It really IS a relief when things like this turn out positively.  Good for you!

It feels good doesn't it.  And the more you come out the easier you will find it.  Now I'm in no way saying that it's going to be a cake walk there are going to be those who will not understand or accept you but even so you will feel much better not having to hide.

;D That is so wonderful Sandy!  That's great that you have such a terrific brother.  I never had any, supportive or otherwise.  Can I have him?  :icon_joy:

He is currently between wives...

Steph:

I do feel that the more I come out, the more I want to come out.  Not having to guard what I say or how I express myself.  Just the feeling of being true to myself is invigorating!

I feel like I am giving birth to myself.

"Congratulations!!! IT'S A GIRL!"
