Title: Do I give up?
Post by: Coppélia on July 27, 2010, 04:22:59 PM
I'm pretty much financially f***ed. I've never been good at dealing with more than one thing at a time. Do I give up on transitioning and try to live whatever ->-bleeped-<-ty life I have left as a man or do I focus on being a woman only to lose everything else I have?

Only you can make these desicions for yourself.

For me though detransition would likely lead to death. But I will admit that if I had to do it temporarily to survive I would. But permanant? no way!

No, I think you might need a plan. Break things down into steps and focus on them one bit at a time. Survival first honey.

Sounds like you need to secure your finances first. And in the mean time there is a lot you can do in regard to getting ready for your life as a woman - like building a wardrobe, learning how to apply makeup, practising your voice, growing your hair. you can do a lot of these with not much money, and it will put you in good stead when you are ready to transition. Also as long as you have something to do, you will be mentally better off. Any progress is good progress even if it is slow.

Best of luck sweety!

Is it even an option for you to give up transitioning? I haven't even started hormones yet but I would not be able to live or present as a male anymore, nore would I want to. Not being able to would be a bigger problem though, I think. What's this like for you? And what are your goals if transitioning? I mean, if you desire srs but don't see how you could ever afford it, then yeah, I can see that that is a problem.

I have the same problem btw, not being able to deal with more than one thing at a time. My financial situation has also been pretty bad ever since I started to 'change'. I sort of forgive myself because transition is pretty intens. As long as I have a roof over my head I will continue with transitioning. If I wouldn't have a roof over my head anymore then I would still continue.

Step by step.  Day by day.  That is how this thing is done.  Working on one thing at a time is how a large project is done.

And of course ...
Never Give Up

I was basically thinking the same as Nicky.

Make a plan. Survival first.

Finances tend to control everything anyone wants or needs.

Caring for yourself and those who rely upon you has to be the first priority. Hunger is a downer.

But writing a plan, with clear objectives. Not major ones, lots of small objectives. Take each day, pay your way, do your best.

Never give up.

well two years into my transition I was surviving on $38 a week but even so I managed to send off for hormoness every three months and about once a week I managed to find a nice and stylish and clean skirt or top in the charity shops and now I'm just a few weeks away from surgery.

Jackie please don't give up! Like Nicky said, their is plenty you can do while you are getting financially stable! You should also apply for unemployment, assuming you don't have a job. I think you said you didn't...idk! But yeah just get unemployment and I guess as long as you are looking for a job, you get money. And when you find one, you won't need it. There's plenty you can do bb, but idk if it were me, not transitioning wouldn't be one of them :(

I will echo the comments above, as I am not really flush either at the moment.

Growing your hair will save money on haircuts for a start, and once it is a bit longer you can have fun styling it yourself.

Practicing a feminine voice, with tips off the Net is free too, and half the battle from what I have read.

I picked up a palette of eyeshadow on special at a local shop, 30 colours for $8, which lets me experiment a bit, without costing a lot.  Any time I am in the '$2 Shop' I have a look at their cheap cosmetics etc.

Sometimes it is just a case of my having to forgo spending anything and concentrating on the internal, emotional and psychological  side of things too.

It's like building a boat- 1000 small things all done right. hugs, Sandra.

I've been trying to train my voice but I have no idea how. I keep my hair short because I have a scalp condition (I cut it myself). I am currently applying for scholarships to return to school but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I did some "soul searching" and found that, like most of you, not transitioning isn't even an option. I couldn't possibly unadmit to myself that I'm a woman.

Thanks for your support all of you.

Voice training is so easy. You know how to raise the pitch and tone of your voice, hopefully. Just record your self and change it around to get what you want to sound like.
