Title: I seriously have sympathy for you guys in the voice area.

So I'm butting in here for a hot minute.
I never could really relate to mtfs when it came to voice. I couldn't appreciate how hard it is to make your voice sound high and feminine. Since I started T mine has dropped a ton and just yesterday when I tried to squeak as a joke, I couldn't. My voice cut out. Lol. So I have an appreciation for how hard you guys have to try. I consciously deepened my voice pre-T but that seems like nothing compared to trying to do the opposite.

Thank you  It really is hard to do, especially without some sort of "vocal coach" which costs money. Funny thing is, I can sing in the female register much more easily without straining than I can speak. :-\ I hate it, because I think visually I can get by pretty decent for now, but as soon as I open my mouth... :embarrassed: not so much!

Yeah it's Pretty Rough :/
Some days i have complete control of my voice and its with out a doubt feminine, :)
Others its hopeless and frustrating :(
I just wish i Had a husky voice like Demi Moore or Kathleen Turner (I love Kathleen Turners Voice)
cause it would be much easier to maintain

Umm... Congratulations on your personal development. :)
Ugh I'm sorry I know your just trying to be nice and I don't mean to angle this frustration at you but I really don't need an FTM to tell me how much easier they have it and how much more support there hormones give compared to ours.
Because I'm acutely aware of how much better you have it. When i'm cringing in pain on the table during my 37th hour of electrolysis Or still plucking deep wiry hairs out of my flat boyish chest. Or my throat is red raw from talking in my female voice all day. Or how my face still isn't feminine after half a year and I'm researching Facial feminisation surgery hoping one day in a few years time maybe I might be passable.
And whats more is I got off pretty frickin easy, most MTF's got it x10 harder than me. I know I have to learn to be stronger and not let myself get so twisted resentful and envious but ya... I look at you boys and I damn well know.

lol for what its worth Zombiesarepeaceful, I'm not Insulted
and I Appreciate your realization of our struggle.
Too Little does a Trans-brother acknowledge a Trans-Sister's struggle and Vis Verca.
We are In This Together.
and all in all no Transition especially either FTM or MTF is easy or easier than the other.
Otherwise it wouldn't be a Transition at all.

And yes I know that my, at the time undetected, IS condition probably meant that I have never experienced the horror of the voice or body hair thing fully either... but even being IS comes with its associated set of peculiar difficulties.
So actually I think we all just have to do the best we can, and I'm sure that doesn't mean we can't appreciate the pain of others and perhaps allow them to express it a little... :)

Struggle is Struggle

I have sympathy for you girls in the beard area. Darned stuff grows back so fast! It's annoying as a guy, I can't imagine how I'd put up with it if I didn't want it there.

Hey I totally have sympathy. My good friend Katherine is in transition as well and we often share "war" stories about what's been tough out of our week. She tells me about how she didn't pass due to her "facial annoyance" coming in too quick and I tell her about how I didn't pass due to a lack of "facial annoyance". I've found that no matter what you're transitioning to become it's rough and hopefully we can all be happy for each other :) I guess I look at it as each side has trouble. I recently read up on ffs and I am sorry that I cannot trade, I'm sure we all are. This isn't meant to offend anyone, just my opinion.

YES! The facial hair is SUCH a pain in the neck! Shaving twice just to go out, having to wear layers of makeup that can end up looking horrid in just a few hours, then having the noticeable stubble coming back before you even go home... It's enough to make me want to stay locked in my house. I haven't yet perfected beard cover, so it has been hit-or-miss.

Last night I detransitioned to make a video directed at people I know IRL who, it turns out, watch my channel (nope, not weird at all..... ::)).
I put on a man's dress shirt with my makeup off, choked down the dysphoria with liberal application of aged tequila, and attempted to use the voice I hadn't used in months.
The sound that came out wasn't quite toad-like, but astonished me none the less. Turns out you lose it!

You are right transition is not easy whether MtF or FtM . Both carry there own issues. I once thought that MtF's had it harder but since becoming friends with a number of FtM's I realised this was incorrect.

Yep it is hard, I personally have found it the hardest part of the whole transition. Still I'm getting there, slowwwly.

I think we both do have it hard. I agree that T does give us great results but don't forget MTF have amazing results for bottom surgery where as ours are that bad that I'm 99% sure I won't get surgery down there.

That's good to know. I'm always afraid of what I might sound like talking in my sleep, or if surprised. I wouldn't want the devil's voice to come back out. ;)

When I visited the phoniatrist at the beginning of my HRT he told me that I wouldn't need voice therapy or surgeries because my voice was naturally feminine. Passably feminine in his opinion and yes I haven't had a problem with my voice. :)
I was also told that my Adam's apple should be practically unnoticeable so no need to cut it up either.
It is such a shame that some people are having such a struggle with their voice. FTM transitioners are lucky in that respect. Our (MTF) voice doesn't change with hormones. :(

Lucky! I don't have much of an Adam's apple, either (still getting the surgery, though) ...But my voice apparently sounds like a little boy's ( :'( I was just called a gay little boy, called a trysexual, and told to "go eat a d***" on xbl a few hours ago), but at least one guy couldn't tell if I was a girl or boy & happily decided I was the former (he's nice btw). :D

Yes, I had been wondering about that, but didn't know where/how to ask... surely it's a lot easier to construct a functional neovagina than a functional neopenis? I would think that right there would be the ultimate distress... (if I could give you mine, I would, in a heartbeat!)

I know I was always jealous that FTMs got it easy in this area. Although I heard from somebody lately that there can be pain while the vocal chords are thickening, is that true?
Nowadays, I'm pretty happy with my voice but I still drop down slightly when I am really concentrating on thinking about something while talking, which annoys the crap out of me

My voice varies already. I have no idea what it sounds like to everyone else because I refuse to listen to myself talk back at myself, but sometimes its a nicer high with a touch of excitement, and other times it's a low monotone that I hate so much.

The gender balance of my voice is very frustrating and confusing to me.... i find when i'm not thinking about it though it sounds the best... I guess now that I think about it.... when i'm not thinking about it is the Times it also sounds the worst....

Both my voice and adams apple scream male.
I am going to buy some tapes for the voice and get a trach shave. I'm really considering trying surgery for the voice but I will give myself 4-5 months to see if I can fix it myself first.

but i feel like it is. looking up is not a possibility...
Noticeable or not i would still like to get it shaved just for ease of the mental and physical burden

If i use my old voice it looks like i am possessed, and i cant really, it hurts my throat. After 1 year of constant use everyday at work (a job where no one knew me), my feminine voice is my normal voice, i cant really shut it off. The only time my voice is lower is when i cough. However, i have always sneezed like a girl since i was little.... I am not kidding i once sneezed (in RLE) and someone i just met said omg, that was so cute.... O.o~

Count me jealous... I scream obscenities when I sneeze. It's gotten me out of church when I was a little kid, but it's always sounded really really bad.

As requested, I decided to do two, but this is more my airy voice, my sexy voice is reserved for my fiance.
Here is me doing like an add for a dating site:

Here is me just playing around:

I can do better but it was just i burst out laughing to much because my fiance was playing next to me and made comments.

I doubt that, but i had fun doing it, my fiance kept making me laugh so i had to start over. I made a recording of me messing with him and talking seductively to him but i laughed to many times to make it be useful. Its as close to as a PG voice i can go without other sounds like moans and such. One time a Lesbian was interested in me over the internet, she didnt know i was TS, but we had some fun just talking and became good friends, she asked me how i sound when i was being intimate with someone i loved, so after a while I decided to make something up to shut her up, she knew it was fake and i wasnt really putting emotion into it so finally i gave her the real thing. All she said was.... "Wow, the difference from what you sound like to what you sound like now... wow... i need to take a cold shower....". So there are aspects of my voice i tone down mainly because of embarrassment.

I know I was always jealous that FTMs got it easy in this area. Although I heard from somebody lately that there can be pain while the vocal chords are thickening, is that true?
Yes. It ranges from minor scratchyness to "death on a stick" which is what I would describe my throat as feeling like when my voice did a massive change.
