A third leading candidate is Theresa Sparks, a transgender woman who was the chief executive of Good Vibrations, a local chain of sex stores. In a political development that perhaps could occur only in San Francisco, Ms. Kim and Ms. Walker have sought to cast Ms. Sparks as the conservative in the race.

In an interview, Ms. Sparks rejected that characterization.

"I feel comfortable in every single area in District 6, which I think is different from someone like Jane Kim," Ms. Sparks said. "I ran environmental businesses for 25 years, Good Vibes for seven years, and I'm a transgender woman who's the head of the Human Rights Commission. You don't get more progressive than that."

Her office is in the building where my theater is.  Chris Daly was a putz.  You could have picked someone / anyone, out of the phone book and got someone better.  It's interesting to see the real estate interests and other people lining up to support her.
