If you don't eat enough you won't lose weight and you'll hang onto the weight.  Your body will go into starvation mode and hold onto every calorie it can to survive.  It's best to eat 3 to 5 small meals and don't make dinner your main meal of the day, lunch would be a better time to have the main meal if you can.  Also make sure what you're eating is healthy.

And exercise.  If you have a pet, take the dog for a walk every few hours and make it a bit of a walk.  Every two hours, my dog gets a 1/4 mile walk so I walk 2 miles that way and then I do other walking (I can't walk more than a 1/4 mile with my dog because of the heat).

The one meal a day is a common mistake.  Let's start with the basics of dieting.  Everyone is built differently, and everyone want different things for their body.  Are you just loosing to loose weight, or also get toned, get more energy, have higher stamina, etc. etc.  All these things matter.  No matter what you're looking for though there are some overall pointers.
4-6 meals a day, and a snack counts as a meal even if it's just a handful of peanuts and dried fruit.  When we define a meal, it does not require to be extremely filling, moderate your portions, do not over eat in any of them.  This is how we keep a high metabolism.  Also, use smaller plates.  Smaller plates and bowls make a meal seem like more than it is, and helps you adjust portion sizes without making your mind feel like you're not eating as much as you'd like.
As far as what to eat.  Try to cook your own food as much as possible.  Most food bought or instant are extremely high in sodium, which is a dieting sense is even worse than fats and sugars, although you'll have to watch for those too.  Sodium interferes with the amount of water and protein you're working into your system.  Eat complex carbs, whole wheat and brown rice that kind of stuff, and lean meats.  Chicken breast meat are the favorite of those trying to get lean and toned.  Fish, especially salmon is high is good fats like Omega-3 which is important to the diet.  If you like fresh fruit, try not to have it as an after dinner snack, it has more sugar than one thinks.  Drink lots of water, and cut down on alcohol (this on is always hard for me, I loves me some empty calories).
Lastly, try to get some regular form of exercise.  People often make the mistake to think that walking for an hour in adequate.  Walking is good, but you need to actually raise your heart rate and seat for a certain amount of time before you're burning any fat.  Different exercises target different areas of the body, so try to do a variety of things, plus it keeps it from getting too boring.  Try to get an buddy to work out with, and commit to it.
Finally, if you mess up along the way, don't give up!  Too often people will give into a craving, have a midnight snack, eat at a fast food restaurant and give up because the diet is ruined.  Let yourself break the rules once in a while and be a little bad and you're far more likely to stick with it until you've reached your goal.

Hope some of this helps and best of luck.  If you want some specific pointers feel free to ask.

Everyones suggestions has been helpful. I'm trying to loose weight cause I need to loose it due not only my personal self view issues but also because I have astma, lower back pain (I have to sleep with a heating pad on my lower back every night to help the pain), and because on both sides of my family has heart problems, dibetes, and high blood preasure and I'm too young for those problem I don't have any of those problems to the best of my knowledge but there is always the risk. So far I rarely go out to eat as much as I like fast food. I have been smaller plates to eat off of to trick myself. I always ate baked food like chicken even bake steak. I always get chicken breast best part of the chicken and I eat pleanty of veggies and lots of salad mainly with baby spinach leaves instead of lettuce. I only drink sprite and herbal tea as well as juices.  I try so hard that even though I doubt that I've lost any yet I have somehow got to look like I have some kind of ab thing that smaller people has heh.

Heck I'll take any and all suggestions that may help as I can get.

Oh man, asthma makes things complicated because for everything else it seems you'd want to do a lot of cardio work out.  It cuts down overall weight the fastest, and helps greatly in reducing heart problems, high blood pressure, etc.  Remember, you do have to get your heart rate up to burn calories.  It may be hard with asthma, but you may consider trying to joging at first.  Time yourself jog for 3 minutes, walk from one, jog for 3 walk for one, until you've done so for about thirty minutes.  After a while you can change it to jogging longer, and running in the end, or mixing running into the jogging sessions, walk, jog, run, jog, walk, and repeat.  If you can run early in the morning when it's not quite as hot, or in the evening as the sun is just starting to set, these things help and you can "time" yourself by running until it gets bright, or gets dark.  If you take it slow and work up you can help with the asthma, though I really don't know your severity.  I know some of my students at martial arts who have asthma and could barely run laps, and now they can pretty much keep up with everyone else in high intensity work outs.
Also for the back pains, stretch as much as you can.  Just a little before working out, and then immediately after your work out when you're still cooling down and your heart rate is dropping.  Stretching should be done everyday, but to different degrees of intensity depending on if you've worked out that day.  Never force yourself into pain during stretching, just slightly uncomfortable pulling, and do not bounce to get deeper stretches.  Yoga techniques can be very good for this, and there are some decent and cheap DVD's available to follow along.

Try walking in the early morning, before it gets too hot.
