Quote from: Jessi_the_red on August 17, 2010, 03:41:07 PMhave a good think about whether you can live a good unknown number of years as an in-closet male or if the feelings of being TS are genuine. Most TS find that relationships break down so it might be a good idea to have a good talk with the girl about getting trapped by pregnancy.

Finally! Someone in the same sociological area of the south! Although im from northwest Georgia, people over here act almost the same in Alabama from times i have visited. Its gonna be all right. I suggest looking online for a therapist who specialize in the field and give them a call. welcome here! Btw, i just recently came out to, and its awkward at first around those you love, but you know who you are on the inside and stick to it girl!

Wow! talk about lucky! My girlfriend is straight.... well im glad to hear that things are going good for you so far :)
Btw, there's a joke us Georgians have about Alabamans: Its only in Alabama where you can marry Y'er cousin (I'm just messing with you! >:-)). I am happy for you, as she will help you out a lot!

Another Small town Georgian here.............thank god I live near the ATL though. I wish you the best. I know how hard it is to come out when living in such a closed minded area. I've started to face life with confidence and not try to hide who I am, and I've found that transitioning isn't as horrible as I thought it would be. Lost a lot of friends, but I have gained just as many. I hope if you decide to transition, life goes well for you too.

Shreveport, LA here :)
IDK how closed minded this area is, the mayor just passed a law that doesn't allow city employers to discriminate against transgendered. We are apparently just big enough to have at least 1 endo (that works in a charity hospital, btw) that helps alot of us out with HRT... I'm still waiting for my letter tho :(

Savannah is a nice city in certain areas. I like the river walk shops and the shopping area in town. I used to visit during high school year for all state chorus. Always lots of fun! Wow lots of support here in the south! I'm loving it!

The south seems to be a place of manners. Yes there are exceptions (there are exceptions everywhere) but for the most part, from what I've seen, here everybody keeps their mouth shut and keeps to their own business, even if they're bigots at heart.
I had an experience today, I'd like to share:
I was working at a truck stop today. While writing an invoice at the front desk around truck drivers and mechanics at the service desk, a non-passing trans came in and asked where the rest area was. I looked at her and just shrugged, not knowing where and told her to ask the people behind me because I do not work here. Nobody that concerned themselves with her seemed to pay any attention, but the people that were in the know actually helped her out quite nicely. One lady even took her stuff and helped bring it up to the rest area for her. Moments after she left a trucker joked saying to somebody coming in from outside, "didya see what just came by here? hah hah hah"
It was annoying that he said that, but at the same time I felt a little more secure because he at least tried to save her some sort of embarassment.

cullman county, or redneck central. but there are quite a few resorces in huntsville for a Trans male or female, my psych is in huntsville along with my laser place and the NAGC meets there once a month, so I am kinda of partial to Huntsville.
now all i've got to do is find a GP or Endo.

If my experience is any guide, not very much.
Not much bad that is. You'll find some really cool people you didn't expect to appear....you'll find some folks with pity in their eyes and a sad head-shake at how you've succumbed to perversion...you'll note some folks who walk by you in the store then start "coincidentally" giggling once they are past.
But outright nastiness? threats of violence and such? don't be entirely shocked if you don't see any of that.

Kentucky girl here (OK, I only live here. I'm from California, but this is the longest time I've ever lived in one city before). I feel probably the same weird sense of fear about the south that you do. I live in Lexington, and I'm told it's pretty accepting, but I'm a bit of a hermit so I don't get out enough to test the waters.
Maybe I'm just stereotyping them, but true southerners scare the bajeezes out of me. Someone pulls up next to me in a truck with far too much camouflage and a ratty old hat, I stiffen up, stay still and look straight ahead so as not to attract too much attention.
Call me crazy though, because I can't wait to finally start hormones and see what kinds of reactions I can get.
I may be a tad bit sadistic...

Hello and welcome Jessi the Red,
I'm also a southern girl - well sort of. I'm an Atlanta Yankee. Originally from Massachusetts, but I've been here for ten years now, so I'm approaching the 'legal' southerner age. :)
I am also largely a hermit and have only crawled out of my hidey hole a few times. I know many parts of the ATL Metro area are very trans friendly, but there are spots that are so definitely not, like where I live. My mom is very against my being trans.
