Title: I am looking for a little help
Post by: Stephanie2664 on August 29, 2010, 08:24:59 PM
I usually have a hard time asking for help, and in this case I really, really need to.

I live in Kingman Arizona and am an OTR truck driver. ( Out 30+ days, home 3-4.  Never really home on a pre-determined day.)  I have been self-administering HRT now for close to six months.  I have done everything I can think of to locate a local doctor to try to get on supervised HRT.  I have my needed letter from Dr. Graham L Peveller PhD.

What I am looking for here is help/information/new ideas of how to locate a local doctor.

Thank you very much for your time.

Have a great day.

Not sure how close to Scottsdale you are, but you might try contacting Dr. Meltzer's office, as I'm sure he could refer you to a good local endocrinologist.

Allot of GP's nowadays are going by informed consent. This means you can see a GP instead of having to go through and endo to get a proper HRT script. Its up to the doctor weather or not they will treat you, but you can try going to different offices and asking. I don't recommend phone calls because office managers for doctors have a bad habit of not giving the doctor your message and you will never be called back.

a doctor is responsible for the treatment they authorise so perhaps it would be best to find one in a place where you go regularly so you can show up as a schedule rather than just as a one-off?  If you have no idea when you will get home and don't get to the trucking company base often then it may be difficult.  Is there any largish town you pass through regularly?Good luck

I would think Vegas has a few docs? It's still a lil far bit I've been out there lol...everything is far! Have you tried a local LGBT center if there is one?

I found my Dr thru a LBGT website that listed several.   I picked one that was easy to get to and I could use my insurance.

Maybe there is a website for your area as well.  Networking is helpful.

Looking on the interwebs is always good but sometimes word of mouth still comes into play...many docs aren't listed as being trans-friendly when they are. If all else fails...call them and ask. I found mine by word of mouth, the known trans friendly docs were overbooked.
