Title: The voice in your head
Post by: JohnR on August 30, 2010, 07:46:06 AM
For the guys on T, do you find the voice in your head, your 'thinking voice' changed as your voice deepened or does it still sound like it used to pre T?

I just realized how weird that sounds   :D

My "thinking voice" has changed, but it was also a male voice before T, which was awkward when I thought and then talked and a female voice came out of me. Now it's my own voice.

My thinking voice pre-T sometimes mocked me, other times it was a male voice.
Post-T it's getting to be my own voice now, but it still mocks me at times. My head likes to mess with me like that. It's all dysphoria. Cause even with as deep as my voice is, sometimes I still don't think it passes. Which is completely and totally irrational cause my voice is deeper than some cisguys, but hey, we're our own worst enemy.

Actually, yeah, it has. I never noticed that before. :)

Ha ha ha... I hadn't stopped to think about it in any depth, but I suspected something like this had been going on. Now I pay attention, it's the same voice just a little deeper.

It hasn't dropped as fast as my actual voice though - which makes for some nice surprises on occasion. Sometimes I open my mouth and something deeper than expected comes out... which is nice :).

I haven't started T but my thinking voice has been male for as long as I can remember. I can't wait for my real voice to start sounding male.

Actually, the voice in my head being male was one of the first clue ins to me that hey...I'm a boy inside...

The voice in my head is the same as the voice i speak.
I don't know what i'll sound like with a deep voice, its hard to imagine..

Ditto Damian.
My inside voice is the way I sound when I speak, so I imagine hopefully if my voice deepens so will my inside voice. It's going to be weird. :/

I've been on T for a month, (no voice changes yet) and the voice when I'm thinking is deeper most of the time. Which sucks cause I'll start to say something aloud and I go "oh, my voice sounds weird I'd better shut up." But then I get the occasional annoyance when my thinking voice sounds like my speaking voice. Either way I don't talk much. Yet...

I'm not on T, but this is an interesting topic.  My thinking voice has always been male.  Some of my earliest memories of realizing I was trans (though I didn't know the word for it at the time) involved being annoyed that people referred to me with female pronouns while my thinking voice was that of a boy.

The voice in my head is a male voice. It has been as long as I remember. It is a bit of a high male voice, but indeed male. I hope my voice gets lower than that when someday in the future I start T.

I find the thinking voice so interesting.  Mine is fairly similar to my speaking voice.

My dad is German, but has been living in New Zealand for over 30 years and he says he now thinks in English..weird.

All this did was remind me how I had an exgirlfriend in high school who actually told me she thought I was insane and that Seth was a voice in my head that spoke to me. Of course I told her she was completely right for a week before I told her how dumb she was.

This sounds like a great goal to me. For those of us who had male voices in our heads before T we should aim to outdo them in masculinity after we are on T. Though that may only sound entertaining because I've been awake for far too long.

I don't have a thinking voice.
I don't think in sound.
I don't even think in words.

But I realize that I don't actually hear the change to my voice myself.

I'm not the only one!!  Ever since I saw this thread I've been trying to, but I can't think with a voice.  Hmm.
