Title: My first bleeder!
Post by: JohnR on September 06, 2010, 05:10:13 AM
Holy crap that just scared the living youknows out of me!

I just did a T shot and I aspirated to check I hadn't nicked a vein before I injected, it was definitely clear but I must have nicked a blood vessel withdrawing the needle. Oh boy did I just bleed!  :o

I had that happen a couple of injections ago. It was a huge shock, because a LOT of blood comes out! I've been much more cautious since then and keep clean gauze handy to immediately press it over the site after taking out the needle. Just in case.

Scared the crap out of myself many times that way. Well not many, but often enough when I was injecting in my thigh. In my opinion it almost seems like you pass  through one on the way in (you may notice some unusual pain when inserting the needle or a bit of a harder spot to push through that you don't commonly notice) and then it bleeds when you pull the needle out. I could be completely wrong, but I've noticed that I could tell before I even got the needle all of the way in before that I had hit something I shouldn't have.

I got that twice now and they made me go "OWPOFIEPROIPIOPIRORE!!!!!" and "attempt" to run to get tissue.
And then I felt stupid.

This last time I got a nice yellow bruise at the site.

I know Nebido's a "huge volume" type injection, but f-it.. I'm thinking of going to a nurse and having her put it in my glutus maximus nest time, even if that means I'll have to sit tilted. Just so I don't have to split it into both legs and sit and shake with nervousness again!

I think there is less pain getting it in the butt because it is a larger muscle, and T needs to be injected into muscle.  I used to get it in the arm, but if often hurt.  It also goes a lot better if insert the needle quickly like throwing a dart.  I've had nurses put in the needle so slow and that smarts!  Never had the courage to poke myself.

Intramuscular injection is the recommended method for T by the drug maker and medical profession.  Better absorption I think, since its in an oil base.

When we took our son to get him started on T ... he asked about subq shots & she said -- sure he could do it if he wanted to give himself a shot daily

Yep boyz sharps can be seriously detrimental to yer health....

Critically make sure it's an uber new, sterile and sharp syringe I prefer those made by B&D....and totally air bubble, air speckles free...

Try to rotate sites as much as possible to avoid over tissue damage/scarring from regular same place injections....

Make mental notes of the bad places, where uber bleeds kicked off, and try to avoid those in future...

If in doubt don't.... and if you have a savvy SO that knows (exactly) what they're doing its oft easier if they do it for you...defo if they be a nurse or medically trained...

Happy skin hunting guyz...lol

I did subq for the first few months of T (weekly injections), and more and more doctors are going this way. See also http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17143361 (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17143361)

Thanks for that link.  Sure would be a lot less painful and more convenient - I hated my IM injections.
