Title: Growth Spurt

As many of you know by my ticker, I am coming up on my 6th month of HRT. A lot of changes, big and small, have taken place. Not just with my body, mind you, but between my ears and in my heart. There has definitely been a huge shift in thinking and the way I see things. I'm really happy to say that all of this has been nothing short of amazing to me.
Seeing my body change has of course been a hoot. I know it still has a long way to go, but the changes already are quite noticeable (when unclothed mostly) and make me feel more comfortable with being in this body.
The biggest and most noticeable change, of course is in the chest. My breasts are now very pronounced and I find I need to make an effort to keep them hidden at work. I'm pretty much full time, aside from the workplace. I will be talking to them soon about whether or not they can accept me transitioning there.
About a week ago the tenderness in my breasts (although it hasn't completely gone away since development started) intensified and I started to see them filling out and rounding a little more. Being that this is all so new and wonderful to me, I am fascinated with them and check them regularly to know how they feel, and in my hand they even feel bigger. I find myself wanting to show them to everyone now, there's a "bounce" in my step, and I smile all the time. I sing a lot, even at work. I never in my entire life thought I could be so happy to be me.
So... wanna see them? ;)

We started HRT about the same time. Interesting. I have very tender breasts. They are actually more sensitive then the man bits. But they have gotten much more itchier in the last couple of weeks. So maybe I'm coming up to a growth spurt.

Word of caution... Don't bump them on anything :o
I accidentally bumped my nipples when opening the door for the UPS guy... I bet he's never seen anyone that excited about a package
Yes they will itch like mad and then start hurting... then you'll wake up to go pee and look in the mirror and say WOW!!!

You're right about bumping them! I found out quickly how often I brush my body against things at work, and it doesn't take much of a bump to really hurt! The real problem was the fact that if I screamed "Ouch! My t*t!" because I would have definitely gotten strange looks! So I had to grit my teeth and pretend everything was just peachy. They aren't as sensitive now, but a good bump will still hurt. =] I wouldn't give it up for anything though!

The sensitivity will fade briefly and you'll think "Woo I'm glad that's over"... But then get ready for round two >:-) It's even more fun

Ok, I get all giggly and girly when thinking about early HRT... Even now, 5 years in, I still send my best friend occasional texts; "I love my boobies!" Tee Hee! Hormones are truly amazing substances, aren't they? ;-)
You will always LOVE your breasts!!!!!! Enjoy!

April, I am VERY happy for you. That's great news.
I'm now 8.5 months into hormone replacement therapy and have constant breast tenderness. Hurts like heck whenever they are accidentally even brushed lightly. The thing is, though, that I really don't have that much development. :-\
Welcome to genetics. Welcome to aging. Oh, well, ... sigh. For 6 months, I was on a rather low dose of just estrogen. For about 2 months, I've been on a large dose of estrogen and added an androgen blockade which has been titrated up to full strength in the last month. Now, things are moving along, but I fear I'm too old for any significant development. A doctor is overseeing my hormone replacement therapy. She is a t-woman herself and also is one of the foremost doctors treating transsexuals nationwide. I lucked out, but I had to move 3,100+ miles to become a patient of hers.
Anyway, I'm honestly happy for all of you who having such good results! ;)

I wonder can someone explain this a little bit for me?
I can't explain the medical/biochemical reasons why things happen this way but after almost 6 years of HRT and exchanging info with dozens of other transwomen, here's my best shot...
At some point early on into HRT, you can expect to feel sensations coming from the area just behind your nipples. The sensations were itchy at first, for me, then turned to mild pain/tenderness pretty much all the time. At about the same time, a pea-sized nodule forms in that spot inside each breast. I'd compare the feeling to really hard nipples after having a really cold shower or swim. That little pea is breast tissue that will start to grow out from the center very gradually in all directions, eventually filling you out to your potential over a period of time that's usually 3-5 years.
The funny thing is that the growth comes in spurts... for me, I knew that when I felt the telltale pain I could expect a period of growth. The pain lasts throughout the growth phase and then, without rhyme or reason, just goes away. I never kept a diary of growth so I can't really say if there was a pattern for me but sometimes it would be a week between spurts, sometimes months. What's really interesting is that I started progesterone in October of last year; I started to feel the same pains and tingly sensations I did when I first started HRT 5 1/2 years earlier!
The most important thing to realize here is that breast growth takes lots of time.... it's kindof like watching grass grow. It really is a remarkable process that seems to speed up and slow down on its own schedule. I thought, for instance, at 4 years, that I had grown all I was going to; it had been around 9 months since I felt anything stirring. Then BAM! I woke up one morning with that pleasant pain behind each nipple and experienced another spurt over the next 6 months or so. The bottom line is that your body is going to react to HRT in its own time and there's really nothing you can do to speed it up.. It's a second puberty, really. I learned to enjoy the little discoveries and new experiences along the way; trying to rush things would have denied me the personal, emotional growth that I needed.

Also, imagine the effect on your skin if they grew too fast... stretch marks, or even tearing... !!!
When mine start again, they don't have the same intensity of pain as the first time. It's more or less just sensitivity, almost like a small ache, for me anyhow. I had to stop my meds for three months early this year due to levels being out of whack, and now I'm into my second month 'starting over' sort of, and they are around AA. It seems like they are taking forever, but I know I don't want them to grow unnaturally fast. Slow and steady progress is best.

I was wondering about sensitivity coming and going. They seem most sensitive during growth periods but does the sensitivity remain or does it come and go? Do GG's experience random sensitivity or are they sensitive all the time?

Are you using the word sensitivity to mean tender or sore? If so, that definitely comes and goes with the growth spurts. As far as being sensitive, as in sensate (having physical sensation) the yes... at least in my experience, they have remained sensate. Before I began HRT my nipples were kind of just there. Touching them didn't have any effect. Now that I am growing actual breasts, they are a new erogenous zone. They have come alive and having someone pay attention to them is pretty exciting.
Does that better answer your question?

yes yes! i can't help but agree with you :D:D:D i just love my breasts :D sometimes rubbing my nipples just sends incredible tingles throughout my body.
not sure why but back then i was pretty much sensitive to the hormones, smtg to do with my genetic makeup. i was experiencing a growth spurt about four mths after starting hrt, and the most obvious change of which was of course my breasts, i was filling out an a-cup bra nicely after 6 mths hrt.

Yes, I was referring to the soreness and tenderness in my original post and it's very true about them becoming new erogenous zones after the pain and tenderness dissipates :)

I wouldn't say I cry at the drop of a hat, what I will say is that I am more connected with my emotions, and now instead of stuffing them down and not dealing with them I am better able to experience and emote my feelings.
Also, I've been attracted to both sexes since I was a teen, so there has been no change there. HRT has allowed me to get more in touch with who I am so that I can express myself and just BE myself more.
