Title: skinny jeans

So I'm bored on a Saturday night and can't sleep and I was pretty happy with the way I looked today and got to thinking about this forum and how many times I've seen skinny jeans brought up when talking about clothing. I know some of you are afraid to rock the skinny jeans because of the hip factor. So I put together this little complication (and do excuse that they're all technically crotch shots lol - I just cropped them and focused on the hips part!) as a kind of "how to rock skinny jeans and minimize your hips". I may do some other "how to's" if anyone finds this remotely helpful ... or funny ... lol.
#1 - I call this the "put ->-bleeped-<- in your pockets" technique. This works best with a cell phone in my opinion. The cell phone will stick out and basically hide the curve of your hip. When I'm out and about I often combine this with #3 (on the opposite side) just to add something on the other side.
#2 - The "hands in the pockets" technique. You can either put a hand in there or hook your thumb in there while you're just standing around. Total camouflage.
#3 - The "Carabiner off the belt (or belt loop)" technique. Works the same way as #1 in that is just adds something there to camo the curve.
#4 - The "emo belt" technique. This is one I rarely employ but it does work. Take the belt out of the loops (or you can leave it in the center loop in the back) and swing it around the side. I've seen some people actually do two belts as well.
#5 - The "stance" technique. Probably one of my personal favs. If you lean on one leg and put the other slightly out it can really create optical illusion wonders. Try it yourself in a mirror.

Hey, thanks for posting this! I recently mustered the courage to buy a pair of skinny jeans, but when I looked in the mirror, my hips seemed huge. I get comments from complete strangers telling me I have the opposite of "childbearing hips", so normally they don't even bother me. I actually sold the jeans to a friend because I couldn't bear to wear them out of my room. I'm going to try these tips the next time I find myself in a clothing store, and I just might brave the skinny jeans again!

Good tips! THanks for posting that.
Another thing I was thinking when I looked at these is that the ones with some shirt overspill seem to work best. So, with the shirt covering the belt on one side. It seems to break the line of the belt and de-emphasise the width of it.
Another trick I use is to wear bulky boots/shoes with slim fit jeans. Then the feet balance out the hips and minimise them.

Nice thread. I only wear skinny jeans, and actually feel much more comfortable in them thank anything else. I'm a small guy, so anything else swallows me. Also, I think a lot of guys don't realize that men's skinny jeans don't fit the way that women's skinnies do, especially on a female body.
I use the phone-and-wallet in back pocket method. It takes away from the dreaded drop-off between the bottom of my butt and my legs.
Other than that, I just try to be aware of how my lower half looks in different positions, and stand accordingly.

i wear skinny jeans too and have two more ideas to add to the list:
1. get the jeans a size larger than a girl would. that way you'll look as though your butt is too small to hold your jeans, and the jeans will ride down, making the pockets hang lower and not emphasizing the behind
2. if you do have wide hips, get your jeans in dark colors. i could post comparison photos with moonwashed skinny jeans vs. black or dark blue skinny jeans and you wouldn't believe it's the same legs, thighs and butt in both pants.
bytheway the emo belt is something i do too, and it really helps a lot in my opinion!

Skinny jeans rule the world! Too bad i only own slim fit. Love this thread though! Maybe I'll buy a pair just to try out some of these tips, cuz at the moment my own pants barely stay up.

Hey you guys! Glad you're finding this helpful and good additional tips!
I have a medium gray pair ... that's about the lightest I've got. Haven't tried any lighter than that.
The ones in the pics are actually chick pants. The guy's skinnies I have are definitely different. I found that I don't even really need to pack with those because the extra bit in the crotch poofs out. I usually buy those a size bigger too. But just like every other type of pants the fit changes by brand. I notice Levi's seem to fit way tighter and don't have as much give (even though they claim 2% spandex I don't feel it).
I also always have my wallet in my back pocket. I have just a regular folding wallet (not the trifold kind) so it doesn't stick out as much. I'm always wearing a shirt or t-shirt that goes down a little too for added effect.

That's really neat! I don't rock the skinny jeans look in any way because of the huge-ness of the thighs and butt and hips coupled with long legs and wide feet. -.- I'd much prefer trying to appear somewhat proportionate. xD If I could wear them, though, I'd definitely try waht you said.

I forgot to comment on this. YES. That was one of the reasons why I went for them too. If I wear baggy jeans it just looks horrid. Regular pants are ok as long as they're straight leg ... if they flare out at all it just looks yuck on me. The more bulky the clothes the more "wide" it makes me look in general.

I'm only 5' 3", so baggy jeans are a no-no. Plus I don't like them. I have rather large hips, so I find that if I wear skinny jeans while slightly sagging, (most guys my age do, so it helps with passing, also) it's hardly noticeable at all. Then again, I wear a lot of flannels and plaid shirts, so that also helps in hiding my hips.
When on T, though, the fat in your hips, thighs, and butt migrate to your stomach, so then you could wear skinny jeans and your hips really wouldn't be all that different from male hips except for bone structure. I'm going to start exercising so I can make myself slimmer in my legs, which will help me seem taller. I also don't want the fat there to go to my stomach when I start T :-\

Levi currently has 30% off and free shipping. This is the last day for it. The code is EMAIL1853.
I used to wear the 511s, which are skinny. But, I've recently gained ~20 pounds, a lot of it found my thighs. I think I'm a too chubby for them now. I think I'm going to try the 501s.
Bathroom has the best lighting, all other rooms are too dark, but the counter gets in the way.
These are 511s. Getting so tight in the thighs that I have a hard time getting my Droid out.
Hopefully when I start T I will stop holding as much fat there. Do you think my body passes in these?

#6; long shirts, let them bundle up just above the hip bump.
#7; stand with your legs wider apart. HOWEVER this will make you shorter.

I'm still trying to lose another 10-15 pounds myself. I'm 5'5" and 135- pre-T, and all the weight is in my thighs, hips, and ass, so super skinny jeans are a no-no currently. I find that the Levi 514- slim-straight jeans are a nice compromise, especially as they seem to have a bit of stretch to them. The super dark, almost black indigo color seems to downplay my hips a bit too.
If you can rock the skinny jeans though, that's awesome, I think they're a lot more flattering on most guys than super lose jeans are, and they work so well with goth/punk/skater fashion. I actually bought a pair of Vans Slimbo red and black corduroy 'jeans' recently, and I think they'll look pretty sweet once I ditch the last of the chub, since my bone structure itself isn't very girly at all.
About packers, I think it would depend on personal preference and the fit of the particular jeans. A lot of guys sag the super skinny fit jeans, but if you didn't and they rode up in certain sitting positions, I imagine it might look pretty obvious if you weren't packing, but only some jeans on some guys.

I only ever wear skinny or slim jeans - I'm 5'3 and I swear anything baggy makes me look like a gnome. Wearing a similar colour top to your jeans also can help disguise curves. Or wearing a size larger than you should be wearing, so you still get a slim outline without it pulling across your hips. And my shirt always has to come at least partway down my hips. My curves are so bad that there's no chance of me passing if my shirt's tucked in or only reaches belt length.

I agree with Keiran84...the way my skinny jeans fit you would be able to tell if I wasn't packing so it's a must, always haha. The baggier the pants, the less I have to worry about it. I suggest you just try them on and see how they fall on your body and if your 'area' is noticeable with/without a packer.

Yeah I'm sorta conscious about how visible it can be that I don't have the "man junk" in tighter jeans. So I usually wear baggier but I don't wear specifically baggy. Mostly straight because those appear tighter and don't make me look like a midget lol.
