ASHEVILLE — The Latin TV entertainer Cachita has followed a fascinating life's journey, from her youth in Cuba, through a sex change operation, and a rise to stardom on the Univision Spanish-language cable network.
And now, Cachita has relocated from Miami to Asheville, where she'll host this weekend's Fiesta Latina celebration at the WNC Agricultural Center grounds in Fletcher.

Cachita, 38, first came to fame by winning a singing contest on the popular Univision TV series "Sibado Gigante."
By the late 1990s, she was a personality on the "El Gordon y La Flaca Show" on that same network. She's also worked as a reporter on awards shows and had a column in the TVNotas magazine. She has now left Univision after a 10-year run.
Cachita said she plans to travel around the Carolinas to give a "series of presentations and establish myself here."
She will also work with the Western North Carolina Community Health Services program to assist with transgendered and transsexual clients.
"These people need support and help in their change," she said. "I am someone who has been through it. I thought that it was important for me as a human being to give back to the people."
