Title: The Women's Group
Post by: K8 on October 03, 2010, 06:18:17 PM
There's an informal women's group at my church that meets once a month.  Most of the women are in their forties and fifties but some are older or younger.  Except for perhaps a few of the newer ones, all of them know that I'm trans.

Today they invited me to join them.  I am friendly with all of them, but they aren't the women I usually hang out with.  Still, I was pleased to be asked and didn't think that I should refuse.

I had a good time.  We just talked about various things, none of which I remember now – just connecting with each other.  It was nice to spend time with a new group of people.  I was comfortable the whole time I was there, even when trying to explain to an elderly woman that I knew her from years ago when I looked different.  (She still didn't remember me – she has memory problems.)

It was nothing special, but it was nice to be included.  And isn't that what most of us want – to be included in a group of people similar to ourselves?

That's great Kate. I'm happy that you felt accepted and that it all went smoothly. Yay!, for being accepted! :D

From where I sit, it was something very special indeed.  THEY reached out to YOU.  Invited you into their group.  That is an enormous thing, I think, and the fact that everything seemed so normal makes it even more special, I think.  Talk about "Living the dream!"  That is amazing.  I'm really happy for you, Kate.  We should all be so blessed.

That is great Kate.  And even if they are not the type of women you hang out with, they asked you to join them.  Is that not the purpose of a women's group?  To bring together women of different backgrounds?

Go and have some fun.  :D

That's fantastic, I had a similar experience just recently and its subtly changed my life.

A week or so ago I was at a narcotics anonymous meeting, and in many ways it changed my life, however not in the ways you might expect.

I woman came up to me and said I should check out the womens NA meeting on saturday, it was then for the first time I realized... I actually passed, up close, for sure, for an extended period of time (wearing my traditionally ambiguous dress sense, lol).

Colleen said it perfectly, Kate.  Wow, that's GREAT news!  Honestly, I don't think it gets any better than this.  Genetic women accepting you into the fold?   Rock on!

Excellent news Kate. As others have said doesn't matter if they are not your usual friends. They have stepped out of the way to acknowledge you. At that is a very special thing to do.

Hugs

Wonderful news Kate.  The fact that it was  "nothing special" makes it a truly special experience.

Hugs from me too, Sandra.
