I've always worn male clothing along with some womans clothing but, i was always of course tagged male ::) I want to add some more feminine things to my look such as makeup, more womanly clothing, and prettier hair. the only problem with the whole hair thing is i cant buy a wig...Im a teen and my mom wont allow me to buy one :'( I can buy womans clothing and makeup just not a wig :-\ So i've been practicing with my makeup and i still end up looking like crap  what makeup do you girls swear by?? maybe i'm just not buying the right stuff ::) okay...now onto the hair issue  what did you girls do to your hair (thats of course if you didnt buy a wig ;)) to make it look girlish while you were waiting for your hair to grow?? i'm sorry that was all kind of a rant :o i'm still so new to all of this

I love this site...........It helps out a lot with choosing colors and even gives you the brand that it is. It doesn't do foundation that great though ??? I've found that the beauty counter at a department store is also wonderful :)

Putting on makeup is like learning to draw, it takes practice (I never got the hang of it). Search for tips or videos on how to apply it and you probably don't have to waste money on expensive makeup, at least for now.

On makeup: Go to a place that sells makeup and have them help you select colours and show you how to apply it. A lot of malls have MAC stores, which IMO sell the best makeup, but any department store will have a makeup counter and people who'll be happy to help. When you get home and try to do it on your own, remember: less is more.
On hair: When I had my hair short before and went into a girly phase and tried to grow it out, I found the best thing to do once it got long enough to get in my eyes was to part it a bit to the side and pin it back with a barrette. If it's still too short for that, if you're young you can put things like butterfly clips and jeweled bobby pins in it, or get a short girly haircut with some blonde highlights.

I am just starting to learn about makeup but thought that the more expensive brands contain a higher volume of pigments and better ingredients. I've been watching videos on youtube to see what they can show me. Kyril is right about going to the better stores-they want to make a sale so they will help you. As for hair-tell your hairdresser that you want to look like a girl-if that's ok with your mom. That's what I did and I have good days when my hair does what I want then others when it has a mind of it's own!

Ether try to get a makeover to learn the basics or buy cheap and practice from videos and/or books.

My mother bought me a copy of "Color Me Beautiful".
Excellant for selecting season, application of make up etc.
Ebay, Borders or Barnes and Nobel will carry it.
Good luck! (And remember to have fun with it!)

As Kryil
Very sensibly said, go to a make up counter and ask. There are three possible outcomes;
They will laugh at you, make you're worst fears come true and lose their jobs. The store wants money. You have money you are the important one in the transaction.
Second, they will make you up as a clown/sissy; they don't make any sales and lose their jobs.
They help you. You go back and buy make up. They get their commission, They feel good for helping someone out. They get paid.
Oh by the way why do woman wear make up? To hide and enlighten features and to feel good. Why do VERY BIG make up companies have people like Ru Paul look good in their make up?
Just go to the counter and ask, and tell them you are nervous. You will have the time of your life. Do try and go en femme. It removes the Oh what factor.

to make the most of your male hair until you can buy a wig (you're the first person I've noticed being allowed clothes but not a wig!) try brushing it forward onto your cheeks and over your ears and maybe get a couple of pretty clips to keep it in place.
choose a quite time of day to buy makeup and go ask one of the more mature assistants as they will no doubt have sold maekup to transpeople before.

If you have your own hair (as a teen I would presume so) then go for a feminine cut to start with and then let it grow out more and more, having it cut every 6 to 8 weeks to keep it nice in female cut but don't have the length shortened unless you want to. That's what I did. Even if fairly short a feminine cut looks good and does wonders for your self esteem. Mine took about a year to get the length I wanted.

With darker skin you probably find yourself putting on a little more makeup. Best to just find darker makeup, even darker blush, and start there.
If you don't have dark skin, then its probably easy for you to find lots of cheap makeup. Check 99 cent stores often. They go through them quickly.
