Title: National Coming Out Day
Post by: Between Names on October 08, 2010, 09:32:26 AM
Is anyone else planning to come out on National Coming Out Day? It's on the 11th, this coming Monday.

I've written a letter to all of my old friends on facebook. I'm pretty sure it's time for me to come out and start living my life. :)

I'm out already, although there may be a few people I need to contact in order to inform them (ones I haven't talked to in a while, but may wish to in the future). So perhaps I'll do it then.

Good for you, and good luck to you on your coming out.

No.  After seeing my parents reaction to me just cutting my hair, I refuse to come out until I'm 100% financially independent.

This is how I feel, too; however, lately I've been debating coming out on my 21st birthday regardless of my situation. ::) Depends how long I can tolerate things as they are now.

Good luck on your coming out, Lucien. I hope you receive positive reactions. :)

I had toyed with the same thing, but I just can't.  It's going to end badly no matter what.

I just copy and pasted the letter I wrote here on a note in Facebook.  Everyone (minus my sister) knew I'm transgendered.  I just came out to my sister.

Oh my, I never thought there was such a day... I don't think I will until I am more independent, and a bit less codependent. I haven't told many people about me, and though people may think me cruel for continuing delays to those close to me for reasons such as my own financial security, I feel justified in doing so. Then again I never set out to be some sort of saint in this life.

Perhaps, my freedom to be at least somewhat close to true self is also a factor in my delay, after all not too many people can say they go shopping for makeup with their wife, however she (supposedly) doesn't know. I think it is enough that at least some of my friends know, for now, though I know it would be a load off my mind if I didn't have to hide it at all.

I know what you mean, which is why I'm talking myself into financial independence first for safety. It just isn't worth the possible risks, right?

To all the warriors who will be coming out on Monday: good luck! :)

I'll be coming out on Facebook tomorrow. It'll be a little anticlimactic, since most of the people whose reactions I care about already know, and a certain family subset won't get to see it (yay Facebook privacy settings). But it'll be a good excuse to get my friends migrated over to my new account.

How did that work out for you Kyril?

So far a small group of people have sent me really great messages, saying that they're proud of me and that I'm really brave for coming out. The majority of people on my old facebook still haven't read my coming out letter, I assume.
