Title: Where do you buy your jeans?
Post by: Jake P on October 14, 2010, 02:25:19 PM
I know there was a topic on here about jeans recently, but I have a semi different question.  Where do you guys get your jeans?  Just recently I went shopping, and it seemed for the most part that I could not find any with a lenth shorter than 29, and even those were rare.  The 29 length do fit me, but they are slightly long.  I am a decent height (5' 7"), and I know that there are shorter guys out there.  Yeah, so, I was just curious where you guys shop, and if there are certain brands that are more likely to have shorter lengths.  Thanks.

Urban Outfitters - The jeans in the men's and women's sections are pretty androgynous looking and there's enough variety that it's possible to find ones that fit.  It's also good enough quality that they don't start to fall apart within a year of purchase but cheap enough to be somewhat affordable.

I shop at Levi's, but...you're one of those lucky short-leg long-torso people who looks in proportion as a guy. I'm the same height as you and I wear 32" pants. Can't say where I'd go to find 28s...maybe the boys' section?

I have the same problem with being short legged. (well, short in general. I'm only 5'5) I usually just find a fit I like and make do with 30 length jeans. I usually need a 34 or even 36 waist because of my giant hips and butt, so finding anything shorter than a 30 length is super rare. I've found that the more "fitted" styles usually look ok on me even in a 30 length, so I usually buy "slim straight" fit in Arizona's from JC Penny's, or "extra slim" fit from Express. If you have the cash, I love Express jeans!

I buy Levi's usually. I bought some from JCPenny a few weeks ago and saw a couple pairs of 28" length. I'm 5' 9" so I wear a longer length and haven't really noticed a 28 anywhere else but if I do notice anywhere I'll post it.

i wear levis, just because the cut of the jeans are more flattering. i also like american eagle. and i know they carry a 28 length, though not many in stock usually (i used to work there)
as for the levi's. you can probably order a 28 length online.

I wear Route 66 (I think that's the brand) for guy pants, and then I wear Levi's (I think) for girl's.  I shop at KMart for the guys and I have to shop at the Levi's store for the girls.

PacSun and American Eagle usually. I"m 5'3" and I wear 28x30 jeans. I did just go to kohls though and buy boys levi's that are 28x28 I think. Pac sun goes down to 27x29 especially in the skinny jeans and american eagle goes down to 26x28 I think.

Where ever I find a good sale.  I wear a 30X32 (I'm about 5'9") so I'm lucky enough to be able to find my size everywhere. I end up buying pants from old navy a lot of the time, cause they tend to have awesome sales.  for dress pants and more formal stuff I really like the Apt. 9 brand from Kohls.  Their small slim fit dress shirts fit me perfect.

I'm 5'7" and I wear Wrangler and/or Rustler, Regular and Classic fits – the standard, $12 pairs found in all lowly department stores. However, I can NEVER find either of them shorter than a 30 inseam. I even checked to see if I could get a pair directly, but they want $50! So... I just deal with it.

It's not such a big deal having a little scruff in the legs, it's more rugged looking anyhow. I roll them up occasionally too like this (http://www.deoveritas.com/blog/cuffing-rolling-mens-jeans/), doing the "john smith" thing lol.

But, if you don't find a pair you like shorter than a 30-inseam, you can always get them hemmed up by a tailor or learn to do it yourself...

I get my jeans at Aeropostale or Pacsun. I wear a 30/30.

Wow....you guys seem to have a lot of money to spend on jeans! I usually buy from where ever. I don't like paying more than like $25 for jeans unless they're awesome. I don't bother with how long they are as most mens jeans are too long for me anyway. I just cut them. Works for me....

I have been wearing Levi 511. I get 32x30. I've seen the 501s with shorter inseams on department stores web sites. Their sizing seems a little inconstant though. I've got one pair that are very skinny, pretty much fit like girls jeans. The trousers are a little bit looser than the jeans.

If you get a Levi belt I suggest ordering a couple sizes up. I got a 32 and I barely have enough length to make it through the buckle.

Wal-mart.  I've never paid more than $20 for a pair of jeans.  I'm short (5'3") and 29 inseam fits me well enough.  It's sometimes hard to find (especially with a 34-36 waist), but it's not impossible.

Second hand stores...they're affordable, worn in at the right spots and I can find odd sizes a bit easier. My inseam is about a 26, I guess and I managed to find jeans that fit my waist and had a 28 inch inseam. The tags said gap, but I've been there and the shortest they have is 30 inch inseam. Maybe it's discontinued? I don't know, but either way they fit amazingly. Also, if you're looking to get jeans to hem, make sure they are as close to the right length as possible. The cut can be funky if they were made for a much taller person.

West 49 mostly - started there before coming out as trans.

See... my mom took me jean shopping a few years ago at a jeans store (because we've always had troubles finding female jeans that fit (not that I wanted them.. but mom wanted me in female jeans even if they were no different then males)....

So anyhow, as we're trying to find a pair of jeans that doesn't look ridiculous on me, the sales lady comes up to help us. We look at a variety of jeans.. and finally she tells my mom. Your kid cannot wear female jeans, _____ has no hips and they simply won't work. They will always look wrong. Go on over to West 49 somewhere and get guys jeans.

I buy my jeans from all over lol.

Abercrombie & Fitch
Hollister
Pac Sun
JC Penny's
Kohl's
Target

Out of all of those I think I like Abercrombie the best because their quality is REALLY good and if you get them on clearance the price isn't ridiculous.  Though it's still expensive.  As for fit I usually go for slim straight or skinny.

I  an say ALL of my pants are from Old Navy cheap about 15 bucks if you get it on the right day, I get my straight legged skinny jeans in the womens, Diva in short or my baggy jeans in mens loose or painter. I'm a 38/26 so I feel the pain bro but insanely enough you can order em online or just scrounge in the store.

A decent Goodwill or Salvation Army will usually have all sorts of sizes and brands, all in one place arranged by size in most cases, and they're also cheap, of course.

A size too long might just be ok, though - I've been getting 30x30, because it seems like the right length, but my mom saw me try a pair on in a store and said she thought they were too short.  I'm not sure which of us is right.  (they didn't come in a 30x32, so I got that size anyways, but...)

I found a bunch of stuff on sale on the Hollister site (the only time I went into one of the stores I walked right back out because I couldn't *see* anything), but it looks like it might only go down to a 28x30?  Or maybe that's just what they've got left in the couple styles I clicked on.

I like shopping for guys jeans, and I like that it's actually possible to do so online - with women's completely random seeming sizing, you never know what you'll get, but if you only try one size, it'll almost always be the wrong one.  Men's?  Chances are that it'll fit.

Kohls and Target is where I normally get my jeans at. I used to buy Converse jeans but after jumping off a building and out of a car, they tore too easily, so I started going to other stores.

Yeah...I haven't been to an Old Navy in years. I usually go to Marshalls or Ross or something as well. Bealls outlet (as clothing store here in Fl) has some really good deals. Jeans for about $10-15.

Thanks for all the replies guys.  I'll have to keep some of these in mind next time I need to get some jeans.  I hadn't thought of some of these places before, so thanks  :)

I get my jeans at Kohls.  They have Levi jeans there, which are the only pants I've found that are both durable and fit me well, and they're significantly cheaper than buying them directly from Levis.  They're always too long for me, but I either just walk all over the back of them or I get my mom to hem them for me. :)

I used to hem pants back in high school, but I thought it looked ridiculous and eventually the hem fell out. I just cut them now. It's easier and it doesn't fall out. But then again, I'm not at the height of fashion, either.  ;D

I shop at a store called Buckle... but the length of the jeans is always too long. I recently got tired of having to roll them up, and decided to hem them all. So I spent a weekend doing that, and now I don't have to worry about it.

You'd be hard pressed to find a pair of guys' jeans that fit in the waist and the legs, no matter how much that sucks. So I would just get jeans that fit in the waist and hem the legs to the appropriate length, if you know how to do that (if not, look it up on Google. If you have no sewing skills whatsoever, get a tailor to do it).

Target works for me when they have sales. They have skinny jeans but they don't overly accentuate your *ahem* ass or your hips. I usually get them a size bigger than I truly need. It straightens out my slight curves and I can wear belts with them.

If you like your jeans really loose and a kind of standard wash, Old navy works pretty well, guys or girls section.

I go to Topman, i know they have a USA website as well, they do leg lengths as short as 28" but they only do them in a 26" waist. However im not even 5ft 3 and the 30" length fit me well enough.
