Today, at 41, Bruce weighs in at 180 pounds, though often standing 6'3" — that's when she's wearing heels.
That's because, over the last year, Chris Gary Bruce has transitioned into Chris Tina Foxx Bruce, a male-to-female transgender.
It hasn't been easy. But Bruce has rarely taken the easy path, and her trans identity is something she is proud of.

Congrats Chris Bruce!!!
I followed a similar path from 5'10" 280 lb male bodybuilder(it is a great hiding place who would know)to a 63 year young 240lb woman bodybuilder and having a blast at it. I pass with no problem as a woman,so you don't have to be small and petite to live your dream as a woman!!!!

I have mixed feelings about this article, mostly becasue of the reporter's past treatment of transgender people who have criticized the Dallas Voice for using the word "->-bleeped-<-" on several occasions.
For example, http://www.dallasvoice.com/busey-doesnt-always-protest-the-word-->-bleeped-<--%e2%80%94-sometimes-she-endorses-it-1015111.html (http://www.dallasvoice.com/busey-doesnt-always-protest-the-word--%3E-bleeped-%3C--%e2%80%94-sometimes-she-endorses-it-1015111.html)
That article is especially concerning since Ms. Bussey always made it clear that she had a problem with gay and lesbian cis persons using the word "->-bleeped-<-," and that transgender people are permitted to "reclaim it" if that is their wish, just like black people can use the n-word.
And then there is the way he starts out referring to Ms. Bruce with masculine pronouns, until he gets to the transition, and then using male identifiers when referring to her pretransition. This is the same sort of "literary device" that violates the Associated Press Stylebook, and that drew much criticism here when it was used in articles covering Mike Penner's transition, prior to the detransition and suicide.
And it personally rubs me the wrong way when he uses "transgender" as a noun. I know some dictionaries say it is only an adjective, while others say it can be a noun, but GLAAD and the Associated Press Stylebook Supplement have said to use it as an adjective only. I'm not going to bother telling Mr. Jones any of this, becasue he has turned a deliberately deaf ear to such protests in the past.
In closing, I don't mean to be a stick in the mud, and/or rain on Ms Bruce's parade, but sometimes things need to be said. My criticism is only of the reporter. I think Ms. Bruce is great, and support her in every way.

GLAAD is NOT the be all end all of LGBT political corectness. It is staffed by primarily white middle class Americans. They do not speak for me or indeed any serious portion of LGBT peoples and they have zero credibility when it comes to seting standards for society.
If I wanna use ->-bleeped-<- I will do so at my own leasure as I see fit.

I don't have a problem with another trans person using the word. But do you think a cis people should do it?

Good evening Ladies and thank you so much for all the sweet comments and emails. It has been a very exciting week since the article hit the street and truly appreciate all the support.
I realize we all have a history which at times and project more than it really there. I can tell you from my time with Arnold he was nothing but gracious, respectful and accepting. He even called the night before printing to ask me about the title (Trans Fit) as he did not want to sound offensive. I told him I loved it and it described me perfectly.
Again THANK YOU so much and keep an eye out for the reality show.
Be Bold, BE Proud, Be Yourself.
Chris
