So, I was at school and REALLY needed to pee. Quite a few people know I'm trans, but I'm still not going to use the male restrooms. :\ Instead I went to my school's health center. I got to use the bathroom there and ended up talking to one of the nurses who was awesome and got me paperwork to change my primary care and got me an appointment with a PC physician who has experience with trans youth!
So, I saw my new doctor on Monday, I only got to talk to her though, since my insurance was being weird. However, we rescheduled for yesterday. Turns out, she's super duper awesome and wanted to put me on hormone blockers so that I'd stop menstruating. Turns out the better decision was to not, so that it'll be easier to just got to Children's Hospital and have them do everything, since she knows the guy who runs the Gender Management Service Clinic (which is super helpful, since I don't really have any sort of support from my family, other than signatures from my parent)! I should also be starting some gender therapy in the next couple of weeks!!!! :D THINGS ARE GOING SO FAST NOW! HOORAY! With a couple months (maybe less) of therapy I'll be getting hormones :)
Now for something I learned...
So, when talking to my doctor, birth control came up (I mentioned it in the context of having severe cramping :( bleh.).
Apparently, even though it does have female hormones in it, it lowers the body's feminine hormone levels. WEIRD, right? She told me that the brain will notice that there are hormones coming from outside and be like "Oh, looks like I don't need to create my own; I'll stop!" So the only the hormones from the pill, shot, etc. will be present. I thought that was cool, and if I didn't care about messing up my hormone levels before T (since I'll be getting my blood drawn soon so that it's on my record), I'd consider taking them.
That appointment made my week. :D
