Title: financial help for surgery?
Post by: herfriend on December 02, 2010, 11:57:23 AM
I recently started seeing a lady who needs the surgery. She has been living as a woman for about 5 years, got a legal name change and has been taking non-prescription female hormones.

She has recently been diagnosed with Kronhn's Disease. There is no cure and the treatment is permanent use of immuno-suppressant drugs which would prevent her from getting the surgery, ever.

Suddenly waiting until a financial windfall or saving the money is no longer an option. She has to have the surgery soon or never.

I searched for sites that might be helpful and this one was on the first page and sounded promising.

We live in Indiana. The surgery at IU Med center would be about $10,000. Are there resources members here can recommend for financial help?

What surgery are you talking about for $10,000?

Your best bet would be a loan.

MTF. Credit rating issues make that a problem.

Someone sent a message recommending the Jim Collins Foundation which looks promising.

That foundation sounds interesting.  I have never seen a price that low for full MtF surgery.
