Dear Bev Jo,
Wow. I had to sit down and pour myself a large glass of Irish whiskey before I tried to respond to your essay, entitled, "'Transwomen' Are Merely Castrated Men". I always seem to forget that such hatred still exists among folks who should understand us the best.
First of all, I am glad that this essay was reposted, despite it's initial removal. I do not believe in censorship or the suppression of ideas in any way shape or form. I am also glad to see your essay returned to this forum Bev, because of a basic rule I learned in High School journalism class. Or rather the explanation of the rule.

...I feel so very distressed when I see feminism...which always seemed to me the idea that we are really all equal and ought to be treated as such turned into something so incredibly hateful.
Nobody EVER points out to these women that Janice Raymond used to be a Catholic nun, and that maybe, just maybe, ol' Janice wasn't operating from a point of neutral objectivity.
Do you think she became a lesbian separatist philosopher with a whole bushel-barrel of unexamined prejudice? Courtesy of the Catholic Church? Ya think?
Anyway, I read some of the comments, and...yeah, there was this mindset of women in the late 60's/early 70's who decided lesbianism wasn't a sexual orientation, it was a political choice...and they wanted to associate with nothing but other lesbians, and start a lesbian-only culture.
And they seem to want adulation for this now? While spewing venom on bi women, trans women, and the newer generation who...well, aren't purists about much, thank goodness.
Except-why? Lesbian separatists didn't do the larger women's movement or the larger LGBT rights movement much good. They separated-meaning they didn't really engage the culture to change it.
Women's-only space is probably a good idea, but not if you spend your entire life there.
