Title: Orchiectomy
Post by: themadwomyn on December 04, 2010, 12:19:18 AM
Hi, so I have a few questions about Orchiectomy for those who have had it that is. I have heard that it can affect the tissue that would be used for the vaginal canal, is this true? If so how badly would it affect that? I'm assuming it varies from person to person, but I am not 100% sure on that. I have also researched that there are like four different types of Orchiectomy, which one would be the best in order to minimize that damage and which one works best? Lastly, I read on Yahoo answers that Orchiectomy only costs like $2,000 to $3,000 is this true?

Sorry I asked so many questions, but I have really been thinking about wanting this surgery so that I could at least get rid of those evil T producing things off me. Any information people can provide would be most appreciated =)

Thanks in advance!

Depending on how long it is till you have SRS, there can be some shrinkage.  Generally if you have SRS within a year there is no problem with donor tissue.

Mine was thru the scrotum under a local.  My doctor, Dr. Nguyen, charges $1500.  He know how to do it to minimize scaring.  He should, he also does SRS.

Recovery, for me, was not big thing.  I was given hydrocodone for pain and used them for my back, not the surgery.

there is no "best" way to perform orchi, most of the time via scrotum is good enough (scarring risk is mostly hype, there are better suturing options today then in the past when it would have mattered).

cost varies by surgeon, in office will be cheaper. as far as pain goes, the initial jab of lidocaine is the worst part :P , the feeling of your innards being pulled is nothing after that.

I've had a in office vasectomy.
Pain was not bad at all after the first jab with a needle.
Could feel them pulling the cords or what ever but it really didn't bother me.
I was back to work the next day.
How much worst is a orchiectomy?
I've read that if your going to have SRS within a year don't bother.
But if you need to wait awhile it will help.
Is any of that true?
Has anyone had one and not like the results? Why?
Or did you get one and really like the results?
Have you went on and got a SRS? How did the orchiectomy effect the results?
Would like to know.
Oh! No!
I've ask more questions than themadwomyn

I can't see it being much worse, although the rest of the vas def.s will have to be chopped. for me, pain (if you could call it that) was over after 36 hours.

It's mostly a cost/benefit thing compared to spiro or another antiandrogen.

Or did you get one and really like the results?

I'm ok with the end results (even if the *other* bit of anatomy is still in the way).

my surgeon told me he does orchies through a small slit down the centreline join and doesn't touch the actual wrinkly bags so they should not lose material but as they are then empty they may atrophy away just like all other stuff that doesn't get used.
