Gender activists have stepped in to help a transgender teenager who has been forced to leave his East London school in Eastern Cape because he was not allowed to wear trousers.
Born a girl, the Cambridge teenager - who now identifies himself as a boy - wanted to swap his school skirt for grey trousers but was not permitted to do so.
"It just didn't feel right to wear a skirt to school. It was just so embarrassing," the 15-year-old said.

A teenager says she is "devastated" after being barred from high school next year for feeling more comfortable wearing trousers than a skirt.

The teenager, who regards herself as a boy trapped in the body of a girl, is caught up in a transgender row that has rocked East London.
"I hate being called a lesbian. I'm not a lesbian. I'm born a girl but I'm a man," said the 15-year-old.

It boggles me how schools still follow this 'Girls in skirts/dresses and boys in pants only' kind of crap.
It's just clothes, for pete's sake. Pants are far more comfortable than a dress ever will be, so why not let anyone who wants to wear them wear them?

Quite frankly, the way schools insist that girls, must wear clothing which can, with a gust of wind, expose them, is disgusting.
I certainly won't criticise skirts and dresses as such, but there's something seriously disturbing that young girls are forced to expose themselves in this way.
I recall, when I was nursing, in one hospital, the dress uniform issued was designed to be quite tight, so hips were shown. When these nurses needed to lift a patient, they generally, lifted their skirt to their waists, simply to allow themselves movement.
Another damming inditement of the feminists.
