Hello, my name is Morrigan (or will be when I have it changed). I'm a 24 year old pre-hormones MTF. I've been reading the forums for a few months, and I decided to make an account. I'm particularly interested in transitioning in the military. I am looking forward to being a part of your community. :D

Hi Morrigan, :icon_wave:
Welcome to our little family. Over 4500 strong. That would be one heck of a family reunion.
Feel free to post your successes/failures, Hopes/dreams. Ask questions and seek answers. Give and receive advice.
But remember we are family here, your family now. And it is always nice to have another sister. :icon_hug:
And be sure to check out these links ( MUST READS )
Hugs and Love,
Janet

Hello Morrigan welcome to Susan's!!!!
Transitioning in the military is a topic I have not encountered yet. That should be very interesting to see what the others here have to say about this.
We are looking forward to you being a part of our community as well.
Hugs, Roxy

I'll hope you can find here the answers you are looking for.
I thought I've read something lately, about another person who is in the army services .
anyway, it's good to have you here, this is a site with very supportive people and a new friend is always welcome.

I'm in the US Army, which is currently not TG friendly, even with the push for "Don't Ask, Don't Tell".

Hi, Morrigan,
Let me also wish you welcome. You have just become another member of one incredible family; I'm happy you're here.
I asked my brother-in-law who just retired from an Army career "what if..."
No kidding, our military is not TG friendly and "just" a CD (as I am) wouldn't be welcome either. DADT is a joke - "they" are OK as long with most soldiers as long as they are faceless and don't try to hang out with me... (Yes, he does know Susan and because of that is probably more enlightened than most military folks I've encountered.)
His answer was to laugh saying it would be a sure way to get a psych discharge. He then brought up a valid point: which barracks would she live in? BethW put it well: Maybe someday the armed forces will understand us...
I'm curoius - How long do you have left? Is waiting an option?
Susan

I'm not sure that the barracks situation applies to a good number of garrisons which are now co-ed barracks. I am currently blessed with a room to myself, which allows me to be comfortable in privacy. I should mention that I am by no means manly-looking compared to typical soldiers, and its my opinion that I can achieve a very feminine appearance without having any surgery or hormones yet. Due to this I have collected a large wardrobe and tend to "dress up" whenever I am on off-time in my room. I know it's against regulations to cross-dress publicly, not to mention the hostility I would receive were it not. My most imminent fear is the move to another barracks that may place me with a roommate. If I lost my privacy I would have little capability of remaining in the army and maintaining sanity. I do have about 1 1/2 years left, but I am thinking if this discharge is an honorable one, I should take it, because I dont see major benefits from staying longer, and from what I understand veterans receive discrimination from the VA when seeking assistance, and I can't imagine it would matter in this case which path I took. Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad someone knows about this stuff because I dont want to lose my post-army benefits (Although I will if it means deciding between the army and transitioning).
