I actually had this mentally formulated yesterday, no time to post it till just now. I hope it might bless some of you..... --Valerie
PRAYER FOR THE NEW YEAR, 2011
Hush.
Exclamations echo across the earth this night, in succession,
like fans doing the wave at a ball game. The 'old' year wasn't bad,
was good in fact, but I smile for those who hold Hope
and Promise this night. For my part, I am quiet, allowing
Possibility to dwell and swell in my heart, as Mary did watching the child Jesus.
I light one candle; it is enough. Enough to behold part of the first Dawn and pray, "Dawn in me."
I pray.
May I live this year with
a humble spirit,
an open heart,
clarity of mind,
purity of soul,
fullness of life.
May I feed my body, intellect, emotions and spirit
with wisdom and balance. May I help feed others
according to my ability. May I learn to take care of myself
and my needs without causing others undue harm. May
I learn to care for others, without taking care of them.
May my thoughts, words, and acts be in alignment, and
always erring on the side of fairness and compassion. May
I learn my role in ensuring world community and peace.
May I learn to walk gently upon the Earth.
May I welcome with gratitude, peace and kindness
each day and all it might bring. May I recognize
the Sacred in all persons, creatures,
experiences and things even while in the
midst of chaos or pain. May I see each Moment as a Possibility:
a Question waiting to be answered; Magic waiting to happen.
May I live wide awake, and remain in tune with my Self and my God.
Amen.
Thank you 2010! Welcome 2011!

I guess that due to living in a secular country (New Zealand), I'm used to only seeing religious stuff in religious zones - therefore I never see it, because I stay away from religious zones. It's just plain weird (and a little uncomfortable) for me to see someone openly spouting prayers.
Conversely, I don't go into churches and spew atheist rhetoric, so I don't particularly appreciate religious rhetoric in non-religious spaces.
