A Son Confronts Gender Identity and a Mother Grieves

Sharon Weir may not be happy that her son is openly gay and identifies himself as transgender, but she will fight for his right to exist in peace.
"He and I battle, but he's my son," she said.
It took a violent encounter at school to unite mother and son, who struggle to understand each other across a cultural divide.
